Cost Room standards and local area.
It was right off the highway & looked like a good stopping place foe my cross-country move. There was black mold growing along the walls, white stains in the carpet, and a soiled chair. The tubs drain was clogged as well, filling up the tub with blueish water during a shower. I was by no means expecting luxury, but the condition of this room was appalling. Staff didn't seem the least bit concerned, and management has not responded to my concerns. The state health department should shut this place down.
Mostly everything was ok. The outlets didn't fit right when trying to plug in too loose.
Didn't like the fact that the tv was a tube tv and the room smelled. No fridge or microwave and the ice machine didn't work.
Nothing Nonsmoking room smelled like smoke, dirty carpet, ants in the bathroom, no water pressure, toilet splashed all over when flushed. I could go on and on
Friendly staff and ease of location to interstates and Old Town. It was old, not updated in last 15 years. Still had a tube TV. Door opened to parking lot. Daylight coming in under the door. Table in room was all scratched. Did not feel safe. The tub was in very rough shape. Yuck!!! Don't stay here. Needs to be updated!!!!
It was cheap The pool that was NOT filled in with dirt was fine. None of my stuff got stolen. I did not see any cockroaches. Breakfast is NOT included, despite what it says online. I put that first because everything I found online said it was, and when I suggested that the hotel do something about updating that info, they suggested I try the on-site cafe. Conveniently located next to the on-site liquor store. You think that's a joke? Look it up. Seriously. On-Site liquor store. Maybe that's a plus for some people. AC ran full tilt 24 hours a day and NEVER got cool inside the room - in October. Chair was broken. Phone was not working- but they did replace it. The bed was like a sinkhole, a HUGE depression in the center. Room definitely smelled musty and not-too-faintly of urine Two ice machines on site. Good luck getting ice though. One guest told me it's better to just go buy a bag at the store. He was right. The "free wifi" was slower than dial-up, but not as reliable. If you try to use it after 7AM, when other guests are also trying to use it, you have not got a prayer. Staff could not care less about complaints. For some reason, the TV cannot be set to just come on on channel 3. You have to turn it on, - it comes on around channel 50 - and manually get back to 3, then you can use the remote. If the little IR sensor has not fallen behind the TV, which mine had. No one told me about the little sensor. The maintenance guy eventually came and fiddled with it, eventually pulling it around to the side a bit, so that if you were right in front of the TV and aimed the remote to the left, it worked. A small thing, but really, I'm sure they knew what the problem was in the first place and some fresh double sided tape would have taken care of it. The tiny bathroom seemed clean, though the sink is in need of repair. The windows had locks which could be opened, but the windows would not open. Since the AC was a failure, this was sometimes a problem. The cabinet which holds the TV also serves as your dresser. The rollers WOULD NOT stay on the slides. The slides are bent and loose, so every time you open the thing, one of the rollers falls off. I got into the habit of just pulling the thing out to get to the bottom drawer, which was inaccessible when the top one was off the rails. Overall, if you need a cheap hotel as close to the nice hotels on Hotel Circle as possible, then this is a place to stay without sleeping outside. If you are there for business and every penny out of pocket counts, I would say you can make it work. Insist on a room as close to the office as possible, inspect it before unpacking anything, and see if they can upgrade your room when you find something wrong. If you are looking for a place to take anyone you are NOT paying to stay with you - wife, children, unpaid romantic interest - spend the extra cash for a place that does not feel like being in a John Carpenter movie.
The beds were comfortable. It was very run down and the area did not feel very safe.
There were nice amenities available including a pool, hot tub, and workout room. The staff were friendly and prompt at dealing with questions or solving any issues we had during our stay. The rooms were clean and all outlets and items such as wifi and tv in the room functioned properly. For the approximate $40 per night we paid it was a great deal for the area (as many are over twice that) despite the age of our particular assigned room and the amenities it was lacking. If you require a basic room at a cheap price this fits the bill. The unit (motel style in the back of the property) that we were in was obviously older and lacking in renovations or restoration.
It was not what I'm accustomed to
The rooms were dirty. Showers and toilet looked unclean. Carpet was sticky. Only stay here if you really cant afford anything better. Dog poop all over the grounds/grass, wasnt picked up. Was not a "RESORT" as titled.
Carpet smelled horrible, mold in bathrooms, disgusting ac unit that didnt even work, no rooms available for check-in until after 4pm (even though check in is at 3pm). The only thing going for this hotel is that the staff was friendly and the lawns were manicured. The rooms were the worst I've ever stayed in, and this isn't a matter of the cleaning staff. They do the best they can do. This hotel is so run down and dirty.
Great location. Friendly Staff, Nice rooms. Paid Parking. Most spa functions are at additional costs.
Balcony views of Mission Bay and the Pacific Ocean. Expected concierge to be more knowledgeable regarding restaurant choices.
Location is great right at the mission bay beach front and the oceana restaurant sits facing the mission bay beach. Staff is friendly at hotel as well as the restaurant. Stayed at the tower. While wifi connection was excellent and convenient, the rooms need update. In particular, the air conditioner (heater/cooler) spews out bad odor.
Liked the views of the ocean and bay, staff were very friendly, loved the warm water in the pool
Fabulous view from the rooms and very comfortable beds.
Great value for the money! Lots of local activities to do on the property, and wonderful accommodations throughout. It's a great place to try Stand Up Paddle Boarding for your first time! Rooms are spacious if you get the suite, and we really loved the grounds! It's a tropical paradise! Well maintained! The restaurants are pretty good, we would recommend the Sunday brunch at Oceana! Also, take advantage of the Bahia Belle cruise in the evening hours. Unfortunately, when you make a late night request, the staff doesn't come up to your room and bring you whatever you need. Aka, we needed some late night towels and we were told to come down to the front desk (all the way from the tower rooms) and get them ourselves. This has never happened to me, especially at a "4-star" resort. In addition, I have been to many spas in my lifetime, and I felt that their spa treatment was very overpriced for the quality of massage received. Overall, we can't decide if we would come back because the positives were so great, and the negatives were so bad! We are 50/50.
Quite Almost every thing but the most was the $20 parking charge. after $300 per night they ask me pay for the parking! !!!!!!
Beds are comfy, helpful and courteous staff, great location. All was great. No complaints.
Close to Pacific Beach The AC went out in our building they were not able to give us a different room. My 2 month old baby ended up with a heat rash it was terrible. Then the soap dish was covered in hair as the last customer shaved and tiny hairs were all over our soap. The humidity without an AC was unbearable. We paid way too much for what we got. Hotel did nothing about any of this.
We had a great time. Daughters wedding was fabulous, every detail was handled beautifully. We had many out of town guest that were as pleased as we were!
Great location. Fun pool for the kids! Paying for parking.
the room was not well maintained the tub has some kind of paint over it and there was a massive chip out of it. I complained to the front desk, who would not let me speak to a manager. Therefore nothing was done to improve my situation and I have little faith that the overall issue of poor maintenance was addressed. this was in the "suites" section. I actually wanted to be in the tower and they moved us to these and said there were no rooms in the tower. So be sure to emphasize what room type you want.
Pool was amazing, nice restaurant, friendly staff Parking price is ridiculous, cost an extra $60 just to have my car at the hotel I was staying at! The room temp was weird, would get really chilly with air on and really stuffy with it off, setting thermostat didn't help. Restaurant was nice but also pricey.
It'a all about the location. We could see and hear the fireworks from Sea World every night. We borrowed boogie boards and an umbrella so we could enjoy a day at the beach with comfort. We selected a room with a view. What we got was a view of trash bins. They charge a $19 resort fee per day, and you also have to pay $27/day to park in their lots. They have LOTS of "extra" fees that I was not aware of. Their bed was no better than a Comfort Inn, and at the Comfort Inn they definitely have better pillows. I expected more and received a lot less.
I love the hotel overall and the on site restaurant/facilities. The rooms could use a bit of upgrading, specifically the bathrooms need to be updated. the shower and shower hardware was not very clean or nice.
The view was beautiful -marina right in front of hotel. Room was moldy, smelly, single pane glass , so I was up most of night because of noise outside. Would not stay again -self parking was also $36/night
pools and location were great. lots of family activities. Noisy rooms, bad wireless (could not get reception in the pool area)
Location Room was dirty esp. the bathroom. Was given a room in the 2nd floor above the lobby. Our friends who declined this floor and got a room in the high rise building had much better rooms.
Juat awesome place Expensive parking, resort fee added to my bill
Onsite restaurant was not that good, food and service
View, patio, comfortable bed, clean, no smell in room. Paying for parking ($35 per night) $100 fee for my dog. One kind of fancy restaurant on the premises. Should have some place nearby where you can purchase coffee. We had to walk a bit to Einstein brothers which is a bagel place just to get coffee. They had coffee in the rooms but then you're using paper accessories like the cream.
Beach view pretty Beds were hard as a rock, woke up with kinks in neck and shoulder. Tossed and turned all night every night. Pillows not very plush / soft. Mattress very uncomfortable. Lots of flies and bugs in room. Overall room leaves A LOT to be desired. If I was rating just room i would give it one star. Didn't feel like a 4 star resort.
I can bring my Hobiecat right on the beach in front of my room. Bon fires on the beach at night. House keeping didn't show up on the second day. No coffee no shampoo The hotel is on the beach so you go thru a lot of towels.
We loved the golf course and beach access so near. Felt like we were in Hawaii, beautiful grounds Fun bar and live band A few more activities would be nice, perhaps led by the hotel and options for things to do with family. Room exteriors need to be updated. Finish construction asap. Update pool areas to include a "babies" water fun area A facelift of the buildings and some paint is key.
I enjoyed the view of the water and the jungle like grounds. For $300 a night the rooms should be updated. The bed was of low quality and the TV did not swivel to face the bed. The bathroom was old and needed to be redone. The air conditioner sounded like it was on its last leg.
beautiful sunsets really terrible hidden $37 parking fee and the resort upkeep not great. also bring a trash can because there is not a single one on the property.
The staff was very friendly and accommodating in every way. The grounds were really nice and relaxing. You do get hit with an excessive parking fee, which I find weird since the hotel owns the whole area. The rooms could use a little bit more TLC (better cleaning, spiderwebs, and bugs in room). Our outside chairs were beyond filthy, sitting in them would have left our clothes stained in dirt/filth. Beds were okay comfort wise. Any issues brought up to the staff was quickly and generously remedied.
The accommodation/rooms need to be refreshed the rooms look old and not well kept. This is not a four star resort and the price is too high.
Only regret is that we did not have enough time there. Loved our room and lagoon. Felt lush and tropical!
Grounds, room was big, location Felt like i paid a little more than it should have been, for a non water view room
It was an awesome much needed getaway for both my husband and I. Such a peaceful serene setting nestled in Mission Bay. It was perfect. Rooms were always nice and clean, the property itself is kept I pristine condition despite the wildlife, aka birds. Would recommend it to anyone whether young or old single or with a family this place is AWESOME!
The location was good and the grounds were nice. The bed was very uncomfortable. Nothing great about the room that made it any better than a Motel 6. The price was steep for what we got. The one night we went to the hot tub it had way too much chlorine in it. When we kicked the jets on it was burning our eyes. Both the AC and the fridge were extremely loud. I had to leave the AC off and unplug the fridge to fall asleep. A lot of extra fees even after booking a total cost package. Those fees were over $100 in"resort fees" and then parking fees on top if that. All in all, I would rather have stayed elsewhere considering what we did on the trip.
Resort was amazing. Great location, friendly staff, and fun activities and accommodations (bike and boat rentals etc) for the whole family! Really did feel like a resort getaway! Only downside was the bathrooms. Not terrible, but something should be done there. Small flies swirling around, kind of dirty, and water resistant paint needed etc. Also outside furniture had many spider webs, needed a cleaning.
The renovated rooms were somewhat nice. The air conditioner made an awful knocking sound, you could hear EVERY little thing outside, the construction was a huge mess, very cheaply put together. The sheets smelled like mildew. A couple of the white pillow cases had, what appeared to be, blood on them.
Though grounds and buildings and exteriors clearly need refreshening, room in tower interior and bedding was updated and clean, and right next to parking lot a 10 min stroll to convention center. Glad we packed lightly with rolling luggage as self serve. Convention food was bland, worse than summer camp, even banquet food was bland, 8 days with no hot meals for gluten free except for on last couple days bland dishwater-like soup finally labeled gluten-free. Quinoa cold salad was delicious - also only offered one day and leftovers in buffet next day - glad I tried it but overheard others afraid to try as assumed made with unhealthy canned peas and carrots, but was actually cut fresh raw cucumber celery and carrot. Should have offered rate reduction. Survived on the 24 hr carrot and celery sticks and whole fruit as breadless hot dogs and cold tasteless canned tuna did not appeal to me and boiled eggs was onlything i could eat from breakfast buffet of cereals and wheatladen pastries, no hot breakfast offered at all. Hot meals that I could not eat were nothing special either - nothing chef made - just unbag from freezer and dump in buffet warmers - breaded chicken strips, chilimac, penne and sauce, lasagne, alfredo pasta. Escaped to mall - True Food and PJ Changs had gluten free variety of selections but had to pay out of pocket - even onsite restaurant charged extra to substitute as I saw no gluten friendly options labeled.
Bellman were the best! Helped me with luggage & getting around expansive grounds via electric carts. Very nice gift shop. At times front desk & concierge desk were so overwhelmed/understaffed, it just wasn't worth the wait in line for service. Because of these lines/wait times, some seating is necessary on that side of lobby, or a number system for those who can't stand to wait in line.
Great location! Centrally located, easy to access trolley and buses. Helpful and courteous staff. Maintenance issues. Dresser drawers broken, Stairmaster equipment rusted and shuts down in middle of workout. Wifi kept disconnecting. $15 daily extra charge to use fitness center and wifi also was not clearly described by counter staff beforehand.
The facilities them selves needs an update. Its like they are stuck in the 1980s. My room was clean but definitley needed an update. And a fridge in the room would have been nice. There wasn't an elevator in the section I stayed in so thankfully I was only on the second floor. A bit difficult to maneuver my suit case, but I managed.
The maids and ground staff were very friendly and accommodating! oVer and hour just to check in .. Rooms are severely outdated .. Parking was $19 a day and there was never any spot available .. People were double parked and I had to circle for almost 45 minutes every night. The wifi never worked and was $15 a day ..
Nothing $19 for parking per day and an extra $15 for resort fee. Ridiculous. The shower/bath tub was clogged when I was using it. The fan raddled like crazy. Furniture very worn out. The entire place seemed run-down. I paid over $200 per, what a rip off for a place like this.
Area plase easy acces to the freway ilumination Expensive and other charges like parking and wi five in dont usex and i have to paY i rhing this needs to be a corresy of the hotel the room was to humed even if we uzsed the ac and the carpet smell like pop o animal pi
The rooms were small and had a weird smell. My fiancé and laid down and were disturbed by a big bug running across the bed. We called the front desk and explained what happened and they didn't see to care much. They just gave Us another small stinky room. Also when I asked about the golf course they show on their brochure they told us it's not owed by them so they couldn't get me access...totally misleading pics will no longer stay there it's not worth it.
Large facility. BBQ bar had very good BBQ food although a little limited on food choices. Rooms definitely dated. Air conditioning did not work after first day. Bed was on the floor, not on any type of riser. Musty. Limited food choices for such a large place. Staff was very friendly though.
I liked the room. It was large, comfortable, and clean. The beds were made and towels changed daily. The grounds take a bit of map-reading to figure out, but were clean and picturesque. The location is not the most convenient, but the nearby Trolley stop brought me easily to Old Town. The food was OK, nothing special. The Internet was always available, but was not the quickest. That could be a problem, as it was at the Computer Science Teachers conference I attended!
Clean with good A/C, Good amenities and good marking of room locations for a complex of spread out buildings. Hotel Circle location is confusing anf hard to exit and enter off the 8 freeway. Long lines of traffic to go anywhere, just to get on the freeway.
For vacationers, not for business travel. Rooms are large and comfortable, though hotel is far from a "luxury" resort. Remote from downtown San Diego. Restaurant/bar closes early.
Waterfront activity options Parking was not convenient - getting in and out through the gates was annoying. Some of the common areas should be updated.
I found dirt and bugs (flies) in my food while eating by the pool area and the people at frescas said it was seasoning and the dirt was olive pulp. I know the difference and the was mad I was eating and feeding my one year old. I still had to pay for my food. It took the servers way to long to deliver. One of the people at the front desk never sent up the towels I asked for And the food was nothing I couldn't make. Not gonna lie I was WAY disappointed.
Staff was great. Very friendly and helpful Carpet looks old

Staff was beyond attentive, when we first arrived the person at the front desk asked us if we were there top celebrate. I said yes for our anniversary, from there everything was so amazing. They gave us a complimentary upgrade to a bay view room, the morning staff sent us roses, teddy bears, robes, sandals and two cards saying happy anniversary. I've never felt this special in any hotel. Definitely will come back! !! Parking was an issue but manageable.
Loved everything about our exoerience The pool could have been a little cleaner
The pool and hot tub were great fun for the kids. Nice view, clean, not crowded! The room was spacious and the grounds were peaceful. We waited almost an hour to get our dinner, which for kids is not a good thing. But it was apparently a busy night with a large party in the restaurant, and the food was delicious, and the hostess apologized profusely. So all in all, not so bad.
We loved the pools and the views of Fiesta island! We loved how quiet the resort was the live ducks in the pool areas were so awesome and the shower head was amazing The elevator in village grande was very loud it was all we heard our whole stay even over the tv! The coffee in the rooms might as well be hot water it was not good!
The staff friendly and polite, responsive there was signage at the entry that the resort is celebrating 50 years. It looks every bit like that. The carpets were in bad shape, there was a moldy musty stench in all rooms that was very hard to adjust to. There were moths in the room which is something I haven't seen very often in any hotel. No fan in the bathroom. Definitely the worst Hiton I've stayed at and not worth the money.
The staff makes you feel like you're royalty!
The setting is beautiful, very peaceful They advertise a shuttle to take you to and from the hotel within five miles (there is no means of transportation or anything within walking distance) yet there is no shuttle and while we requested the service several times it was never an good time for staff to drive you into town.
Beautiful room and grounds, even smelled wonderful everywhere! A few too many kids running around but hey its a family resort. I was there on business.
This is a lovely hotel and I would stay there again. Wish I stayed longer to try their spa but it was a quick 2 day business trip and literally in and out. I did dine at Avant and had the crab and pear salad. Very good but not big enough for a meal alone. My CEO had the lamb and my friend had the free range chicken and they very much enjoyed it. For dessert we had the delicious chocolate trio and it was enough for 2-3 people so we shared. My CEO learned of a death in his family upon arriving to the hotel and they sent a complimentary bottle of wine and cheese to his room. I thought that was extremely generous and kind. The staff really went above and beyond at every turn to make my stay as pleasant as possible. Thank you RBI! I stayed in the Greens on the top floor. Nice view of the golf course and fountain; however, my room was in the middle of the building and you had to walk to either end of the long building and climb stairs with luggage to get to the top floor as there is no elevator. The parking spots are very small and I had rented a standard size suv so I had to park further away from the building than desired. Overall, just small stuff.
It was good to have free parking available next to the hotel although spaces ae limited
Really great stay. The free wireless throughout the hotel was great. Breakfast wasn't wonderful but certainly not something to avoid.
The front desk staff was very accommodating and friendly. Loved the feel of the place, kind of old European style apartments. It felt quaint and historic. Loved the location, within walking distance to Balboa museums and zoo, quick drive to Gaslamp and Hillcrest. Lack of air conditioning. It was hot when we were staying there.
Staff friendly and helpful; fabulous location walkable to Balboa Park; free parking available; huge room; extremely comfortable bed; roof top dining for breakfast; reasonable rates. We have stayed there before and would stay there again. We had some misty rain, unusual for San Diego. Not the hotels fault.
Position close to Bilboa park that allowed us to do sports, kitchen facilities, clealiness of the room, breakfast served on penthouse, staff availability and support. no
The bed was comfortable, location next to baboa park bathroom had no room in it,very small, view on 5th floor was of the 7-11 and apartment buildings.
Outstanding staff: Best welcome ever. Excellent location next to Balboa Park and Hillcrest. Very good for kids. Nice little kitchen. Free parking. Exceptional view from our room and from the roof. It is an old hotel: personally I liked that historic feel, but others might not.
The staff was good and kind. The restaurant is also good. The facilities are little old( but be kept clean), and my room had little bad-smelling.
location is great and the staff really do a tremendous job; They are friendly and helpful. Rooms are a bit dated but the bed was very comfortable.
The view of Balboa Park is priceless. The nice breeze from San Diego Bay was refreshing. The roof top breakfast was amazing. The large spacious rooms were comforting.
