A wonderful old and formal hotel in the city centre. The courtyard cafe and roof sun terrace were fabulous places to relax.
Like design of the place and the prices. some of the staff people were not very helpful, location is not very convenient.
central location. Nice atmosphere. good breakfast room was a bit small
Nice classic old hotel in good downtown location. The only problem is there is a substantial amount of construction on the streets in front of the hotel which is an access problem until they are finished.
Noisy bathroom exaustion. Breakfast personel always very busy - simpathetic but not effective(for this level of hotel). Public parking more than 5 min walking distance, not sure if safe at night. No mentiont of this limitation on the hotel page - private parking nearby (100m) closed on wekends??
excellent staff great location
Cool interior, friendly staff, clean rooms and nice breakfast. Also the location is very good - it is in the city centre so you can just walk to see all sights I was a bit surprised about quality of internet connection - it was very slow and constantly disconnecting. There was too dark in the room, but i think it is by design
location of hotel was excellent. it was also.historic and luxury and personels were very helpful....webliked too much. maybe the bathroom needs a little bit renovated.
The entrance to the hotel was so beautiful and inviting. The hot breakfast wasn't inviting enough.
Great service, beautifully appointed, very convenient. We appreciated the woman at the front desk who understood we had no interest in bus tours and gave wonderful recommendations for sightseeing and restaurants. wifi was finicky.
The building itself is wonderful. The location could not be better. The staff were very helping with everything from recommending a good "non-touristy' restaurant to helping us figure out which port wine to buy.
The staff were friendly and the breakfast was pretty substantial for European standards. The hotel is well located as you are 5 minutes from the center of city.
it was in the centre of porto Needs updating, beds were terrible. Too small and uncomfey
Perfect location and very friendly staff! Great hotel, Iearned that the hotel building itself is considered to be a monument in Porto! Bathroom wasnt very clean and they didnt clean it althought I told them to...
Central and good price
Location. Constant traffic noise. Doors and windows warped, didn't close properly.
Great location, clean, friendly staff Found this hotel using kayak app under "luxury", but this was definitely not the case. Clean and friendly, just not a luxury hotel
Very convenient location. Staff pleasant but very little information/ help on local sightseeing. Bed squeaky and shower bracket broken but room generally comfortable.
very convenient and suitable for our purpose
Its location was both good and bad. It was excellent to be by the main square and all the activity but inevitably it was noisy at night. The 24 hour reception was unfazed by our need to leave the hotel at 3.30am to catch a train. The taxi came promptly and everything made easy. It was excellent to have the free computer facilities. The keyboard of the computer in my bedroom had obviously taken a bit of wear and tear and was difficult to use.
very central, oldie world charm rooms quite small
The location is excellent for a visit to Porto. The rooms are clean and comfortable at a very economical price. There is a short flight of stairs to the lift. Breakfast was basic.
The location couldn't be better. You are right on the square in the historic section of Porto. Tour bus starting point 1 block away. Good restaurant next door, tourist information a few blocks away. The parking garage was 12,75 eu/ day which is probably in line with other parking in this area but it adds up when you stay awhile.
The hotel is well located for access to the tourist bus pick-up points and Metro station and within easy reach of the various bars/restaurants that front the Ribeira although bear in mind it's uphill on the way back! Our room was located on the 3rd floor and at times during the night was very noisy, I checked to see if the windows were open - they weren't! If we had been staying longer I would have asked for another room.
Location and friendly staff. Room was just right, everyuthing we needed nothing we didn't. Nothing
Very friendly staff. Excellent location. Very good breakfast.
location was excellent They could improve on their room decor. The bath was bright, as was the eating area, but the room was drab.
location was excellent and hotel staff were helpful
The bed was extremely hard to sleep on!!
Location, room and view
This hotel has excellent location in the old town, close to Ribeira and famous Stock Exchange. It is very easy to navigate through the town from this hotel. The service, rooms etc are quite avarage but it is a good deal to the money.
The hotel location is very good, as it is close to the Ribeira and Gaia. It is close to City Tour buses. The room was small and uncomfortable
Good location Hotel is rather shabby in rooms
Location was excellent, the size of the rooms were large and our children could stay in our room at a little extra cost. The staff were fantastic too. The beds were very hard and we kept running out of hot water.
large, clean, quiet room, friendly personnel, location right in the city centre, excellent value for money equipment, furniture of room rather old, low class breakfast, difficulties with parking
We only stayed one night as we had to catch a flight the next morning. We were staying in Santarem with our daughter. On our next visit to Portugal we are intending to stay for a weekend in Porto and we definitely will go to Pao de Acucar. all was perfect
The receptionists were very friendly and helpful. We arrived before check-in time; they eagerly took our luggage and placed it in our room while we went out to explore. The room size/layout (family suite) suited our needs well (two adults/1 child)...two bedrooms (one double bed in one room; larger room one twin/one double with TV) separated by door. Weren't bothered by street/hall noise in our room--a problem noted in other reviews. Bathroom was sizeable for European hotel...had enough hot water--noted this was complaint of previous visitor. Had plenty of basic towels/exchanged daily. Breakfast was adequate (good variety of breads, limited meats/cheese and cereal, variety of 'from concentrate' juices, canned fruits etc)--typical for region--as economical hotel, we were satisfied. Location excellent...3-5 min walk to Metro (take to/from airport--easy and cheap!), close to main city shopping area/market (5 min walk), 10-15 min to River (longer on hike back to hotel). Overall very satisfied with our experience. Beds were small...were shorter than US standard double; mattresses were very firm...but that wasn't a problem for us.
The hotel is in the heart of the city. The breakfast is varied and tasty. The staff is very nice. The windows can't be closed appropriate. The room doors are clumsy to be closed.
Great decor. Excellent value for the money. Small room but very clean.
Nice breakfast, brilliant location, friendly and helpful staff, clean rooms serviced daily. We requested a twin and had two huge bedrooms! The rooms are a little old fashioned and in need of modernising and brightening up.
Its location and its staircase. Nothing really.
Exelent location, very cosy hotel like Porto city.
Excellent location. Easy walk to major tourist sites including the waterfront. Room was spacious .Breakfast was fine. All staff courteous Could use brighter wattage in room lighting.Should have fresh fruit rather than canned fruit at brekfast.
The staff were friendly and very helpful. The hotel itself was unique and full of charm. The hotel location was excellant..close to everything! Also the breakfast was everything anyone could want. The room was described as a triple but was really a double with an extra bed crammed between the 2 twins. I don't know how 3 people could have managed to move around in this room. Room was small even for a double. We were disappointed with that. Also, alot of noise from the street. Our shutters wouldn't close or they would have helped block the noise.
Very helpful staff Although the hotel was clean, there were ants in the room. Handle hanging off the bathroom door. Broken washbasin
This grand hotel is old -- the oldest in Porto in fact. However, what is lacks in modernity is more than made up by its style and service. You will be greeted by a doorman when you arrive. The red carpets, the keys in the storage racks, and the antique furniture are charming. Good breakfast and a lovely dinning room and a quaint little garden are added bonus. Oh, great location too. Highly recommended.
The breakfasts The smallness of the shower
Great location and buffet breakfast. The building itself is almost a museum. If you prefer new and modern, stay somewhere else.
The Grande Hotel de Paris is a wonderful old world hotel filled with fascinating old furniture and mementos of yesteryear. It serves a generous buffet breakfast and has a pretty garden in which to stroll. It is also situated right at the heart of the city.
Exceptional location close to the city center. Very good value for the price. The staff was very helpful and amable. Breakfast was fairly the same each morning. Could be nice to add a bit of variety.
Location Difficult to access as road repairs had closed off the road for 5 days
Charming old hotel intelligently renovated
the people is nice and the breakfast was excellent is dificult to find the hotel
Old world charm, clean and confortable, centrally located for sight seeking, a range of restaurants, the shopping district and the Metro.
The central location of the hotel. The door lock was very bad.
very nice modern hotel in the middle of porto. i would recommend.
Excellent location. Comfortable room. Design of hotel is too dark - it was a bit like staying in a bat cave!
The staff were wonderful. Hotel very interesting. Food excellent. It was fun. Loved everything about the hotel. Not a bad point as such, as hotel was really fabulous, but I would have preferred the toilet door (in bathroom area of room)to be opaque.
The hotel had a big lounge room with a huge screen where guests where able to watch music dvd's. On my birthay I asked if we could watch a U2 DVD...We enjoyed watching U2 360 life from the Rose Bowl:) We heard that there was a fitness room. But we were a bit dissapointed when we entered it: Less than 10 square meters with only 3 fitness devices.
The decor of Hotel Teatro was fantastic - I loved the theater theme (which they pulled off without it being too kitchy). I also thought the bed was super comfortable!
The location of the hotel is suitable to visit the city The rooms near the Almada Street are quite noisy during the night
The price and location.
The hotel was central in Porto as well as offering and providing all the facilities of a hotel of this star rating. All the staff were very friendly and helpful. Nothing
good service - attractive dining room a bit noisy - traffic
The hotel is very well situated for visiting the city on foot and there are a lot of places to eat within walking distance. It is also close to a subway station so can easily go anywhere in the city. The staff were very friendly and helpful too.
one of the best hotels we have stayed in during our 8 week vacation of spain and portugal, great location and very courteous staff there were road works outside but that was not the fault of the hotel
the location was great and the receptions staff were very friendly and helpful. We arrived early (10am) and were shown straight to a room. the hotel is lovely with wide staircases (although there are lifts also), sculptures and stained glass in top floor lobby the breakfast was basic - ham, cheese, croissants and yoghurt. the double bed is actually two beds pushed together - a bit uncomfortable. wireless access would make a great addition this hotel that scores highly otherwise.
In the city center. Mediocre breakfast
The superior luxe room was spacious, clean and old style but well kept. The central yard is beautiful. Very good location, accross the street from Sao Bento station. Good value The recption is the ugliest thing of this old hotel. Breakfast was poor.
The hotel was very clean and excellent location to see the tourist sights as well as convenient for trains, busses and metro.
Had a great time! Buffet breakfast was better than expected. Would recommend.
Welcoming staff. Breakfast could be better
The Hotel is very central & close to the Metro & Train Station
Good location and friendly staff. Quite and easy to find. Very basic. Small rooms.
Good hotel. Central location, breakfast was good. Very centrally located right next to the main train station and right in the middle of the city centre. I stayed in mid November and the room was absolutely freezing, seemed there was no heating
Very welcoming and accomodating staff. Excellent central location. Clean, comfortable room.
The best thing about the hotel is its location. It's very close to Praca Liberdade and also a street away from the main shopping thoroughfare and Sao Bento train/metro station. It is also very reasonably priced (as is eating out in Porto) and the staff were pleasant. I stayed in late November for 3 nights and the entire hotel was freezing! The hotel has an electric storage-type heating system, and my room was really cold. I turned on the heater, but it took a long time to warm the room - it would have been nice if the staff turned it on to take the chill out of the room prior to my arrival. In all honesty, it really is a soulless, forgotton-in-time kinda place, and a makeover (with central heating!) would do it wonders given its central location. Also, the room and the lounge areas had a musty stale kind of smell, and a simple room odouriser would really have made a difference. The breakfast was ok, but the breakfast room was really cold so, if you go in winter, wear a fur coat or stand by the toaster!
excellent location and friendly people, polite and charming old-fashion furniture but confortable
the location and the breakfast. it did not have any heater in the bathroom so it was very cold. (november)
Bed was pretty confortable. Breakfast is really poor and the room is pretty disgusting, a lot of bugs around. Elevator is not safe at all, too small as well.
Nothing Breakfast, Furnishings
Good central location for transport, shopping, cafes and restourants - 15 to 20 minute stroll down to the Ribeira
location to buses and trains very good and sightseeing there are many restuarants near by, and the hotel staff were helpful room was small to say it was a double, with a window looking onto an air shaft at the back of the hotel,
Very central location the room was quiet and kept very clean, the staff were great on the last day we had to leave before breakfast and the member of staff on the desk offered to make us some coffee. The breakfast in general was fresh and good quality
The view + location was excelent The pillows were a bit tough to sleep on
the location of the hotel was excellent. There are 28 steps to negoiate before you get to the reception.
The view and location were great and the sheets were clean. Breakfast was simple, but adequate. The comforters on the beds were worn. The breakfast was fine aside from the flies that lingered in the middle of the room.
Excellent location, always open. Very pleasant and helpful staff. Plenty to eat and drink for breakfast. Comfortable bed and air con available. The room was too small for a tall friend travelling with us. The breakfast area is very small and we could not always get two tables together.
Good location, very comfortable, good sized, clean rooms and good value for money. No
very nice and clean rooms.good location.
Fantastic central location for a lively city trip.
its so central and good value for money. it can be noise at the week end friday night as a lot of youth hang out there. the bed sheets need to be changed daily and the breakfast should have more variety in terms of egg . cold cuts etc.
Nice hotel in the heart of Porto. Everything you need in your city trip are there. And I really had wifi in my room not like the other hotels promised.
Good central location esay to get to from airport by bus Good internet connection Attic room slightly cramped no frills
Really great value for money, rooms big and clean, very good location, helpful staff. Just a bit too noisy...
The staff were the nices and most helpful I have ever encountered. They were veey friendly nd sop accomodating - when we awnted to book longer they had to put a lot of effort in to meet our request but were brilliant. I will definitely come back here! I travel extensively and the location, cleanliness etc were great, but the special staff make this Pensao the best
Good location and price. Small rooms.
Friendly and clean, with a great restaurant.
Good team, very polite, helpful and friendly. I will miss this place and would like to come again.
friendly staff, willing to help always.
In the centre of town room very small and musty.
staff very friendly and helpful, good in-house restaurant with excellent regional food, localization very convenient very small rooms, cleaning much below standard, too much noise from the surroundings restaurants and bars, breakfast too basic (we missed our youghurt)
The room was efficient and a good value. The bathroom shower was small and there was not enough toilet paper stocked in the bathroom.
Pensao Grande Oceano is a family run business, staff is very helpful and friendly, eveything I need I was promptly helped by Joaquim and Lourdes. The location is good it's just out of the historical center, very safe and quiet area with lots of options for shopping and eating, the rooms we had were spotless clean, good sized, double glazing. It was a very pleasant stay.
Location was excellent being close to three metro stations just off the tourist bus route and it was very close to the town hall. Free wifi was great. Staff were friendly and we managed to communicate in a mix of spanish, portuguese and hand gestures. Very cheap and we booked it half an hour before we got there. Room was very cold with no heating options available. Shower curtian was the worst ever. People allergic to stairs should go elsewhere. Room also smelt a bit musty (and old cigarettte smoke perhaps).
Very friendly and helpful staff. The room was clean and fresh room and the location of Pensao Grande Oceano is central - walking distance to metro stations, old town etc.
