The staff was exceptional. ALL of them. Not much. The spa was priced really high so we ended up making other accommodations.
They need to add a salon that has someone there to do hair blow outs for customers staying at the Ritz.

Great location, boutique type hotel, great bedding, crispy clean and free wifi, what else is there to ask? I commend this hotel and recommend it without reserves. I am very very picky and difficult guest but I stroke gold with this one, Kudos! Pricing may be a tad high.
I always received a warm smile and greeting when I stepped through the door from the security guard (who would open the door too!) and the front desk employees. They really made me feel comfortable. Coming from the east coast to west coast, it makes the transition that much easier. The security guard even offered to help me walk to the store due to the late hour in case I was nervous. I was very safe in my solo adventure - no need to fear the neighborhood. Fun location, incredible hotel, outstanding service. A must stay!

Bed was comfortable and really good location. Expensive parking for valet. And no parking at all if you don't do it. After we came back from the day out. We came into our room and noticed that A) the door was not shit tight. And B) when we got in it smelled Like somebody had just taken an extended bathroom break. Which was awful. I immediately called customer service and though the guy was nice he was not able to get in touch with any managers. I was supposed to get a call the next day which I still hadn't heard from anybody till I was checking out. They called the manager for me. Who offered 50$ off which I still haven't seen on my credit card bill. Was a bit unfortunate really.

The location is good and the hotel is clean and cheerful and unpretentious yet comfortable The room is very small and the rooms all have no views. The outdoor terrace is very small and sunny so hard to use. Not a lot of comfortable public space. An ok hotel in a convenient area.

Friendly and helpful staff, decent room size and close to the Chinatown entrance gate at Grand Street. The room was clean ( didn`t trust the carpet though ). The carpet in our room needs a replacement. We have been hold up by the night porter singing far to loud at this time of day when we left in the morning at 05:45.
Very convenient location to China Town, cable cars, and shopping district. Staff was very courteous and helpful. Made for a very nice weekend get-a-way.
Rooms felt spacious, beds were super comfortable and had a very refreshing feel to them Had breakfast only in their restaurants. Choice of items very good, quality good but much more attention needed to replenishing of items. Customer service was lacking in that they did not notice when you came to restaurants, empty tables were either not cleared, or cleared tables did not have cutltery. This restaurant part of the hotel seemed like such a contrast to the excellent service received from Front Desk and housekeeping.
The building is beautiful and welcoming, the staff is amazingly friendly, other guests were pleasant, breakfast was nice, bed was comfortable, I felt safe, windows open, fan in room, wonderful place!!! The fan in the bathroom didn't work, but they supplied me with a plug in fan to accommodate, not really that big of a deal.

The location. Walking distance to quite a bit. I did not like that they did not help move bags and that the internet was an additional charge. Printing was an additional fee on tp of the internet fee if someone needed.Also the room faced a brick wall and the rooms were not soundproof.
Hotel is in Chinatown, only blocks away from North Beach and a nice (downhill!) walk to Fisherman's Wharf, but the cable car line was close by and provided our return to the hotel. Hotel staff was very friendly and accommodating. Breakfast was continental style (toast, boiled eggs, cereal, coffee). Hotel and room were VERY clean and room was not as small as I thought it would be.

The room and bathroom were very clean. The price was comparatively attractive. The windows faced a cement wall; felt like I was underground. ** For bare bones travel to downtown SF, the place was okay. The room was drab. The staff turned off the AC daily so the room was hot each day. Walls were thin; could hear neighboring discussions. The bed was unconventionally firm. Lighting was awkward; one ceiling fixture as primary.

GREAT location. I thought being in China town would be unpleasant form (simply because I'm from NY and being in a densely populated part of town held no appeal for me - especially since I was traveling on business). But I loved it! And the hotel is situated in the strangest but most fabulous block - it's a cross section between China town and a strip of very authentic Italian/Sicilian restaurants. The best food. I ate VERY well and enjoyed the clash of cultures. The staff was so incredibly nice and professional. Very friendly and accommodated my request with no problem. I liked everything. And I'm someone who hates staying in hotels. But this was really a pleasant stay. Keep in mind that I only stayed one night. But still, it was a great stay.
Very clean and modern. Staff friendly and helpful. The location is excellent and within walking distance to many of San Francisco tourist sights. The value was great - especially for a city hotel. The rooms are a little on the small side, but doe the value I would stay here
The location is by far the best part of this hotel. Will be staying there again every time I travel to San Fran to have a good time. Not a very large room or special hotel for anything other than location.
Great locaiton - although you do have to walk up the hill - but that's just San Francisco. Rooms are spacious and overall it's great value Some (not all) of the hotel staff are miserable and unhelpful - it's a shame as the other half of the staff are great.
Nothing Room was small, beds were hard as a rock, hotel smelled, first clerk was pushy and rude.
proximity to union square and other great restaurants and sites are a plus. hard to control room temperature..and bathroom needs to be updated
Staff were very friendly and helpful. Great location near Union Square but out of the hustle and bustle. Not luxurious but pleasant and comfortable for one, with some nice touches (wine, toiletries)
The position is good being close to Powell St and cable car and good restaurants. The hotel was quite pleasant but not at all as depicted on its website. The room was basic, quite run down and did not represent value for money spent at all and also had a very unpleasant smell which we needed to mask.

The location is excellent. Close to Chinatown, Union square & the Powell St cable car. Friendly atmosphere with the wine tastings! & Free WIFI in the room--brilliant! Everything was fine.
The location is great, and the value hard to beat. The staff was helpful and nice. I would stay here again for those reasons. The room was pretty small and hard to get in or out of with a stroller (we have a 3 month old baby) or with the luggage trolley. My wife found the bed rather hard, as well. Also, the parking garage they use is more expensive and less convenient than another option right down the street that our babysitters used. It was literally twice as much. Not sure why they use this one, but I feel sort of duped.
The room was perfect, the bathroom looked to be recently remodeled, the sheets were nice. We had a room to the alleyway and the city noise was muted. The staff was quick and helpful. nothing not to like.
I thought the location was perfect and I easily walked or caught a cab for my destination. I traveled from Massachusetts and arrived around 2 PM. My room was not ready and they told me to come back in an hour. I also thought the bathroom was very small. My husband is 6'2" and I was glad he was not with me because of its size.

I liked the price of the hotel. It was really inexpensive especially to stay centrally in the city. The bed was hard as a rock and really uncomfortable. It seemed like I was sleeping on a box spring without the mattress.
The place is clean and had a cool modern look. The biggest issue was that our room had no air conditioning and due to its location within the building had no air flow, even having the window cracked didn't help.
The walls where hospital white . They started doing construction at 8am on a Friday.
The location was great. It was close to the Bart and to a lot of the attractions. The noise. Because the hotel is located on busy street, the street noise was very loud. Perhaps they can invest in better sound proofing of the windows.

Location is great. Staff is friendly and helpful. It is a basic hotel: you get what you pay for! Room is small and worn out, old building, needs renovation. It gets rather noisy from the street. Noises from rooms around you can be heard very well :-( The shower is alright for dwarves but for people over 1,70m it takes some effort to use it. Once again: it is a basic hotel: you get what you pay for.

The location of Grant Plaza Hotel is excellent for seeing the city! Right at the beginning of China Town, 10mins to Union Square.
Cheap and conveniently located in Chinatown, very close to downtown and public transportation. There was an odd odor, an unpleasant smell in the room. On one of the nights, the heater made banging noises, so we had to turn it off for the remainder of the stay.

Nothing at all. Over charge on my card, plus they continued to charge my card after I left. I was told i would get a refund because I checked out one day early. That didn't happen. And my car got broken into in there parking garage. Never again will I stay there.

The place is advertised as a hotel but it is actally a hostel with communal bathrooms and showers.
Room was very tiny. Too expensive for sharing bathroom room. No heat control in room. Rooms are very old. Doesn't look like pictures at all.

I did my research and this was the only affordable option for me. The bathrooms are not in the room. And I brought a waterproof zippered sheet, as well as my own sheet/blanket. Soap and towels for my room and when I showered. As well as shower shoes. It was a bit scary staying alone but I managed just fine and no one bothered me. If you are staying in summer just know the windows have no screens and there are mosquitoes. I also brought a sleepmask and earplugs. With all these I felt much more comfortable and slept well.
The unit had a cot for a bed. The unit did not have a bathroom, shared bathroom on the floor and shared shower on the floor. Spent $20 more that day on a major chain hotel, this place should have been cheaper!
Microwave and mini fridge in room. Tiny rooms, shared bathrooms, rude staff, NO parking, mosquitos everywhere and ready to bite the hell out of you.. Beware!

I had a great experience staying here. Sure, it's not a Ritz Carlton or anything, but if you're looking for a simple, cheap place to stay while enjoying the city, this is it. Room was clean and I had a microwave and fridge for my food (huge plus if you're trying to save money). Wifi was surprisingly fast (not what I expected). Lastly, location is excellent. You're not far from Bart; several bus routes are within a 5 min walk; and there are plenty of attractions nearby.
I was able to book the room for the day I needed it, which was unlikely given that I was looking to stay in SanFran at the last minute. I wouldn't stay here again if I got a free voucher. When booking, because I booked through a third party (booking.com), the hotel staff seemed to have problems confirming the reservation. Actually checking in took close to thirty minutes, which is excessive. The room ran around $170.00 for a single night stay when no events were going on in the city (on a Wednesday night, nonetheless) - which is a bit ridiculous, even for last minute reservations. The hotel had a 3 star rating on Google. I experienced 1 star service - from checking in, where several of my questions were outright ignored, to checking out - which required no identity verification at all. My group of friends and I arrived at the hotel around 3 AM (after having checked in around 9 PM and exploring the city a bit). First, the doors were locked and we had to knock on the glass to get the attention of the security guard. He would not open the door unless we showed him BOTH our state ID cards AND our room key. He explained to us that when we checked in, they only took my girlfriend and my ID, so only we were allowed to enter the hotel. This posed a problem as our friends were planning on staying in our room for several more hours. I asked if I could speak to the manager, after they refused our friends entry. The manager, in no uncertain tone of voice, told me that it was hotel policy and that the security guard had explained everything relevant already. In this particular event, my friends had had several drinks and were incapable of driving, so I was hoping they could sober up for a few hours in my room. I explained this and that they had nowhere else to go for the night to sober up, and the manager said she didn't care. I asked if I could pay a fee to allow visitors and was denied. I asked if I could book another room for them, because other than sleeping in their car (in downtown San Francisco as inebriated out of towners) they had nowhere to go. The manager said roughly the following: "There are no visitors past 10 PM period. This hotel is closed for the night, so I will not book anymore rooms for you. We open at 6 AM, and if you return then, I might attempt to book another room for you at full cost if we have any available, which I find unlikely." Ultimately, my friends and I wondered around the city for 3 or so hours until the hotel "opened" at 6 AM, at which point we all walked up to my room to rest. I was also told there was a complimentary breakfast, which was not laid out from that point until I checked out at 11:30 AM. When we got to the room, there was no air conditioning and the rooms were at a balmy / humid 90 degrees and up. We had to rely on an open window that the four of us huddled around for fresh air. The room had a single lamp, a 12 inch or so TV, two beds, and a sink. The toilet and shower (if that's what they can be called) existed on a shared basis - one each per floor.

Our hotel was in a perfect location and it suited our needs very well. We were able to enjoy the city just by walking out the front door - Chinatown's gates were about ten steps away - and it was conveniently located near public transportation, both into the city from the airport and throughout the neighborhoods. The room was small, but very comfortable, and the staff was friendly and helpful. The walls of the room were somewhat thin, but when you have courteous neighbors that isn't a problem. Also, the hotel does not have air- conditioning, but the weather cools substantially in the evenings, so with the windows open you can be very comfortable.
Nice to stay in a different type of hotel. The paintings on the walls and in bedrooms were brilliant. Very arty, but classy and good. Hotel staff were very obliging to all our requests, and dealt with everything efficiently and in a friendly manner

The staff went out of their way to accommodate us and the needs of our baby. They were all consistently polite and very friendly. Cool rooms too - really interesting decor, like an art gallery No. They were amazing.

It was more spacious that I expected, especially for SF. They even had a walk-in closet. The beds and bathroom were pretty clean. We didn't find any bed bugs and we didn't leave with any bites. The rooms have heaters, but they are quite noisy. Staff were very rude. They closed the front lobby door after a certain time. I had to knock and stare at them as they walked over to open the door for me. Rooms were very cold and heard lots of noise from street. Also no one ever picked up when I called the lobby.
