From the complimentary brunch at Ruth Chris, to the friendliness of the staff, i am impressed everytime i come here.
Everything, but the outdoor smoking areas were in direct sun or behind pool area that had no air.
The staff was very friendly, helpful, and professional. Train noise in the early morning hours outside the hotel and noisy visitors next door and down the hall.
Housekeeping was fast. Location on the river walk was very convenient. The room and bathroom were very small. There was also a very strong scent of perfume that was overwhelming when you walked into the hotel. We noticed it every time we came into the hotel during our stay. It was almost nauseating. Parking was expensive. It was the week of Thanksgiving and the front desk seemed to be severely understaffed.
Near Convention Center. Bathroom was not clean.
How close it was to the river walk. The smell on our floor and room size.
Hotel had lots of activities planned for families and kids, including egg hunt and wake up call by the Easter bunny. Super friendly staff and very clean. Excellent access to the mall and food court area for those that like different tastes on a budget, but also quick access to very nice restaurants as well. Some of the activities were at the other Marriott across the street
Location, easy to find, by riverwalk. Oh, the people working there, OUTSTANDING IN EVERY ASPECT! Nothing, would stay there if the prices were better!
The hotel was great and the staff was nice as well by accommodating you with the services and room. We had a great view and we could just walk downstairs to the river walk. The river walk was close but the places we wanted to go to were further than expected. Overall the San Antonio Marriott Rivercenter was great especially since it has a mall right down stairs. I did not like that you had to pay for parking. Your paying a price you would think that that would be included. Also there was no mini fridge in the room for food.
The river walk A little expensive for the small room
Staff very helpful, assisted in getting my husband a golf tee time, friendly, patient, good suggestions for things to do, and places to get services. Would have liked spa services available at the hotel.
Staff, service, room, and the hospitality was awesome.
Seemed to have difficulty getting auto from valet parking. Took 50 minutes one time.
My room location was awesome. The view I had for the firework show during New Years Eve was even better. I live and work in the UAE (Dubai). We have some of the best and most world class hotels that anyone can offer. With that said,....my first stop when I landed last week was the Palacio Del Rio. I put my bags on top of the dresser and when I pulled them off,..I found a lot of dust on top of the dresser. I did not make a fuss about it,..but I do know that the places I stay around the globe will not tolerate such a thing. Other than that,..the staff there was extremely polite and helpful. I will def. stay at the Palacio del Rio during my next visit to San Antonio.
Friendly, helpful and warm staff. Location is excellent, right smack at the river walk. Within walking distance to all main attractions in the city
Stayed there for SA Marathon. Had to get up at 4:30 but could hear loud music outside until 10 PM. Also, AC did not work very well.
No free wifi
I got an upgrade to another room and it was awesome there on out
Nice room right on the riverwalk parking was a big issue and expensive
We liked the location so much!! Just besides the Alamo, and the hotel is nicely preserved!! You can see the age of the hotel in the rooms! The bathroom was extremely small but usefull. The valet it's on the expensive side!!
If you want a little history stay, this place is it. This place is great old school hotel with the oldest bar in town. Has a nice pool and inner garden to chill. Nice helpful staff Rooms were clean and large. The shower could have stronger flow and pool service coming around a bit (there is a phone to place order) but that is not a big deal. Location is perfect - Riverwalk starts right here and Alamo is a cross the street Can't open windows in the room (the old bulding) Shower has weak water flow
that it was close to everything They didn't tell me about 20$ parking day, they didn't tell me 100$ deposit would be needed.
I stay here often and I have tried other places it's so luxurious for the money and the location is in the middle of everything!
San Antonio's 1859 hotel was all it promised. Perfect central location next to the Alamo, and the Menger Hotel itself is rich in history, generously displayed throughout the building. The room itself was just fine, but I am interested mostly in the ambience outside the room (so long as the beds, showers and such are good). We will return. One note of special interest: the maid was a great source of info; cheerful and helpful! The view from the window? - a wall! Next time we will ask for a courtyard or other external, interesting view. Otherwise, all was well.
Beautiful hotel with charm and character. So close to everything and convenient for someone on foot/ for public transport/ for tours. Great pool. People working there were very nice - allowed late check out at 1:00pm. A bit noisy at night - one night it was loud drunk tourists, once it was random construction at restaurant in mall next door, & once the fire alarms went off. I don't think it's the hotel's fault though.
Historical, legendary hotel - also comfortably contemporary ... Plus, the staff at the front desk was polished and helpful. They made us feel they were serious about our enjoyment of the hotel. Would have liked to have stayed another day to enjoy more of the amenities, such as the Menger Bar and its TR Rough Riders connection. Note: You really need a "none of the above" category for the second question on who was in your party -- none of those definitions fit. This was frustrating and I almost didn't write this review, but decided to submit it by checking "group of friends" even though it's wholly inadequate to describe my party, which was me, my sister, and mother, and my sister's boyfriend.
The historic portion of the hotel is beautiful! Rooms are small, full size bed... but very nice and very clean. I would like to suggest that better quality sheets be used on the bed... sheets were way to big, so they tangled up at your feet. The beds are not the most comfortable to begin with and the sheets only made it worse.
Ordered breakfast off the restaurant menu. It was high priced and the portion size was small. 1 breakfast taco with sides was $16!
Location is excellent Beds are quite narrow. Air conditioning went out one night. Thankfully, it was repaired the next day.
The Menger is very historic and literally right across the street from the Alamo. There are lots of things to do that are within easy walking distance that give you the San Antonio experience. The historic nature alone is worth the stay. We didn't get a room in the old, original, historic section. Our room was outdated and in need of renovation.
Central Location: Beautiful 150 year old historic hotel, literally across the street from Alamo, Numerous attractions, Riverwalk Mall, Ripley's, Wax Museum, Guinness Records, etc.... Short trolley ride to Historic Market. We used it as base of operations. Bought all-day passes to attractions and walked back to hotel to cool off/swim when needed. Lots of food nearby too. Hotel staff gave great service too. Kids loved all the museum like stuff in the hotel. The bar has a mirror with a bullet hole next to it they say Teddy Roosevelt shot in it on a bet when he was there recruiting his rough riders. Been here several times. It is our 'go to' spot for San Antonio. The parking is very expensive. Thirty dollars per day - but it is expensive in the entire city and you do have unlimited in and out privileges. The hotel is really old so it has a few rough edges. The pool tiling needs a bit of repair, some of the doors stick a bit, the elevators are small, floors are a little uneven and a bit sloped here and there, etc. It has a lot of "character", but I guess refurbishing an old hotel is like restoring an old car, you never quite manage to get all of the rattles out of it.
The hotel has a great location on the riverwalk in a quieter area next to the mall. The room we had (handicap) was very large, and the bed was comfortable. The lobby was nice, there was a starbucks in the lobby, and the food at the bar and restaurant were good. This was one of the biggest hotel disappointment I've had in the past. year. I traveled over 200 days in the past year and stayed at quite a few different hotels, so I don't say this lightly. When we first walked into the room (905 handicapped) the bathroom stood out as an eyesore. It was at least 5-10 years past when it should have been renovated. The grout was multiple different colors that made it look like it could be moldy, the wallpaper was peeling from the walls, and there was a general lack of craftmanship in the way it was constructed. The final straw was when I went to take a shower, and the shower head connection was leaking and spraying water in all directions. It wasn't just a loose connection, because I was unable to stop the leak. This is something a guest should never have to deal with at a chain like the Marriott. I asked the front desk to be transferred, but because it was a busy time the only available room was the room below us (805). This bathroom was in slightly better condition, although there were a few cracked and chipped tiles. Although the shower head worked, it was a very low end and cheap looking model. The bigger problem was when my wife tried to take a shower the first night, she was unable to maintain a constant water temperature. It would alternate between cold and very hot. She showed me how red her feet were, and I can only imagine what sort of a problem this could pose to an elderly or handicapped person. The other problem was the terrible tv reception while we were trying to watch the sugar bowl in our room. It would constantly blur or pause, making it nearly impossible to watch the game. Fortunately or unfortunately, the reception on the large tv's at the bar was fine. In summary, this is not the type of property I would expect for a Marriott. For the time around the new year the value wasn't bad (just under 200) however I would have preferred to spend 50% more on a room that looked like it had been renovated in the past 10-20 years. In the past year the only time I have experienced bathrooms in this sort of condition were in $50 rooms in towns with less than 5000 people. Buyer beware.
- At $230 a night it was a below average hotel.
The staff was great. The rooms were clean. Even when house keeping forgot to clean our room twice, they sent someone over immediately to clean it up. The breakfast attendants were super friendly, especially Rudy. The breakfast could use better variety of fruit and swich the sausage with ham once in a while. The pool was so cold, I thought icebergs were forming.
Location Bathroom was filthy, the food in the restaurant was terrible
The beds were very comfortable, and the view was great Air conditioner dripped a puddle onto the floor, and 25 bucks a day to park my own car... just to have trees drop berries all over it that stank so bad... then birds eat them and poop all over the car too. I got to drive away angry after a relaxing weekend.
Valet, Joe, was very helpful and friendly.
the location 1. the 25usd/day for parking 2. the parking fee announced upon check out only 3. the not very pet-friendly 4. the state of the room
I loved everything but most of all the valet Chris who took such good care of two old women...his mother would be so proud of him. Please if you can tell him Mrs. Whitehead and Mrs. Nall so appreciate all he did for us.
Had a nice stay. When compared to the hotels with the convention hall, well worth the price. Location to the convention hall is good and a very easy walk. It was a very nice place to get away from business. They offer breakfast and an evening snack with a free glass of wine. If you enjoy historic buildings, this is your place. The bed was great, I had no issues in with my room. Shower was awesome. The wireless internet is basic and not very strong. I had streaming issues with Hulu and Netflix. There is a musty smell that is common with older buildings. There were times it wasn't very noticeable and other times where is was. Can't say it bothered me a ton but it was definitely present. The staff was very nice. There was one staff member in the office who is way more direct than the others and I could see her coming off as mean. They should be more open about there Fitness Facility not being in the hotel. I had 45 minutes of spare time one day and no chance it was enough time to get to the other hotel to workout, it is quite a distance away.
Riverwalk Vista is in a perfect location for touring downtown San Antonio and a peaceful oasis after touring.
