Great stay all in all. Unfortunately , noisy foot traffic outside my door.
very quiet place mattress too soft
parking and buildings were crowded on the site.
Staff was awesome, helpful and attentive. Close enough to enjoy walks and wharf Staff tried diligently to make amends for noise and interuptions by other guests, but it was too late, damage done OMG, warming up LOUD work trucks @ 5am.....only to be turned off and restarted 15 minutes later. It's 55 degrees, what needs warming up for so irresponsibly LONG? Stayed on ground floor by request, we have a toddler! Only to have Paul Bunyan checked in upstairs from us, with constant pacing from 8p-11p. Real smart front desk work?! Large window to front of our room had broken glass, ripped molding and looked as though somebody wanted in, other than door. a bit scary
The hotel was not clean. The room had no air conditioning so it was musty and muggy, which made it hard to sleep. The location of the hotel was sketchy. The pool/hot tub area could really use some work. It was pretty gross. Also, the towels were the size of a small hand towel and were as rough as sand paper. I would not recommend this hotel to anyone.
Very convenient for getting to downtown Monterey or Carmel. Spacious bathroom and great value for the money.
Cozy room. Basic amenities. Quiet. Staff helpful. Close to harbor. Bed sank in the middle.
The woman at the front desk was so nice, she gave some recommendations for restaurants and some appatizer vouchers. The place was very clean and well taken care of. Will for sure return!
Best stay for the price in the area, perfect location
The staff was friendly. Hotel is close to many places.
High quality stay for high value. Staff was extremely helpful and cooperative.
clean and comfortable Small shower. Noisy family outside in early morning but that's not the hotels fault
This motel was great! Cheap, clean, friendly staff, quiet, good location, free internet, what more could you ask for. Would stay here again for sure if ever in Monterey. I have no complaints, everything was perfect.
Service was great. Bed made every day, coffee generously replenished each day. Courteous front office staff tutorial on local haunts and some handy discount cards! Will always stay at the Lone Oak when in Monterey. A little far to walk to any major sites, but parking is easy in Monterey so it was not a hassle at all.
Wonderful person at front desk. Astute which is rare. Hot tub clean and exercise room great. Quiet. Redid hotel and put in double pane windows and soundproofing. Very close to MRY (Monterey Community Airport) Need the exercise room which is tiny. If there were a lot of guests, it would not be possible to use. One place open for breakfast at 6 am. Not on property and not particularly healthy food.
Beds and pillows were great . Tv was cool with lots of channels and bathroom was very clean . nice big room. Very clean and quiet . Pool wasn't very heated and it was semi indoor it had an outdoor patio with and opening to the pool . We tried to swim at night but it was too cold.
Clean, comfortable, affordable Noisy, location
Closeness to Cannery Row, sightseeing, wharf. Really worth the money. The beds are very comfortable and we felt safe. Walls needed to be touched up, under sink. Small things. Overall, very happy with this hotel.
Very clean and safe was in splendid location and was very sffordable
This hotel has everything coffee pot, microwave, fridge, blow dryer, shampoo and conditioner, body wash, hand soap, lotion, Wi-Fi, cable ac/haeater, indoor pool, ice machine, and free breakfast. The parking lot got full quick. No parking in front of our room.
Price. Room was recently updated. Grounds were dirty. Rude staff. Only hot breakfast option was waffles.
It was very clean, the staff was friendly and helpful, the breakfast selection was good, it was close to our destinations. Bed wasn't the most comfortable, but i have nothing bad to say about the place.
The room was nice and clean. There was a night club next to the hotel that played music until 2am which made it very difficult to sleep comfortably. This happened both days I stayed there Wednesday and Thursday. Called the front desk regarding this only for the agent to act like they had no idea what to do but said they would get back to me and never did. The heated pool was not heated but cold. The breakfast area was small and crowded with guest and it made it uncomfortable.
People next to us partied all night with loud music and dozens of people in their room. We complained and nothing happened . Was not worth the money we did not sleep at all and the tv was broken.
Very nice motel. Not enough breakfast food to go around. No DVD there. That alone will keep us from coming here again.
Location and very friendly staff. Way too loud. Could hear EVERYTHING occurring upstairs. Could not sleep. Cheapest hotel in town, but still way too expensive for the overall experience.
Friendly people at the reception. Good value for the money. Parking in the lot. I would do it again. The furniture in my bathroom was in poor condition.
The bed, the location, the hot tub and the breakfast was good, the OJ was amazing! :)
Location is great
I loved the style and comfort of the hotel, the fact is our room wasnt huge however, it had a nice comfortable bed a great flat screen tv refrigerator and a microwave. It was extremely cozy. I loved it and would stay again. Loved everything
nice place and the room is very sweet.
I really liked the location. We like to walk, so we were able to do a lot without having to drive. Convenient for the price. The room was not really clean, and the door looked like someone had tried to kick it in at some point, frame was warped. Very small room. Would have not wanted to stay here if our kids were with us.
Rooms were clean, great bathrooms, excellent location, wonderful experience.
It was close within driving distance to both Cannery Row and Fishermans wharf as well as Pacific Grove and Carmel. It was also close to Pt Lobos reserve. You could attend casual dining or dress up fancy dining. The manager was quite friendly, and the Motel was quite clean. It would be nice of the pool was heated instead of seasonal.
Very large bathroom and decent sized room. Pool was not heated.
Close to the shopping center. Easy parking. Free wireless internet connection. Small breakfast included. Brekfast a bit small, just cofee and muffins.
Very friendly and helpful staff. Short walk to the downtown area. Right across from a beautiful pond. the attached restaurant was great. we stayed on the top floor and the outside hallway was just bare wood. looked terrible but could not tell if it was under construction as it didn't look like anyone was working on it.
convenience to wharf, highway 1, room cleanliness location is on the corner of two busy streets....noisy area
Hotel facilities are excellent and we had a pleasant reasonable-sized room. The location is also quite good - only a short drive to Fisherman's Wharf and the rest of the very attractive town of Monterey.
The Room was clean and the heater worked well... It was a cold night for Monterery... 11/2010
Private parking was really convenient The hot tub closes too early, Usually couples like to use it after dinner to relax and unwind
from the outside, it looks like a motel. But the rooms are very good quality "Hotel style".
Clean, cheap and efficient None. Was v. Happy for the price
Our hotel room was very clean and neat, late arrival was not a problem, and it is partially renovated. We skipped the breakfast though, so I don't know about that. The town center is a 5 minute drive, or a nice walk from the hotel. Overall, great value for money. I would be happy to stay here again.
Great location, decent hotel for the price The floors didn't seem like they were vacummed.
Easy check in & nice staff. Nothing fancy. Bed was comfortable & room was clean but no air conditioner just a fan which was ok since it wasn't too warm. The breakfast area is in the lobby and was so crowded with no place to sit. Had to dodge many people just to get a bowl of cereal!!
Location is convenient close to frreeway access, fisherman wharf, and shopping malls. Check in was done rather quickly. When we needed assistant, Inn staff was quickly to respond. Our bathroom door was not able to close, lock was not usable, and the heater/cooler was not working. There was a video tape player but was not working. No dvd player to use.
Nice room, close to everything None
The man that checked us in was very helpful. He let us know about the special package they offered for the Aquarium. Another worker told my boyfriend to put out his cigatette when he was outside. We wete aware that all of the rooms were non-smoking but didn't understand why he coyldn't smoke outside.
I really liked that their was breakfast in the morning. That the room was clean and that the pool was near the room. I really enjoyed all the plants outside and the balcony. I did not like that when we got their late they were very few options on where to dine and that our heater wasn't working.
Staff members were very warm and welcoming and the free breakfast was better than similarly-priced hotels, offering cereal, mini muffins, fruit coffee and even (really good) do-it-yourself waffles. Our room came standard with an extremely large king-sized bed. An added bonus was the mini fridge - great for keeping our camping groceries cold as we traveled through California. Only real downside was that while taking a shower, I noticed that there were stray hairs on one of the walls - remnants from the previous guest(s). Not a huge deal to us as the rest of the room was spotless and we were staying less than 24h, but a bit off-putting nonetheless.
Clean, sizable. Good location for quick access to downtown Monterey, Carmel-by-the-sea, Big Sur, etc. The internet was surprisingly fast, and free! The microwave and fridge were also quite convenient. Noise was the biggest issue: the ceilings creaked a lot every time the people above us moved around. It felt like we could hear everything they were doing. If you're thinking about staying here, definitely try and get a 2nd-floor room. Since our room was very near a busy street, we also heard a lot of noise from traffic and passing cars.
I liked the price. Location not bad. Breakfast was hour later than stated at check in. Nothing made this place stick out. It's just a place to sleep. Will stay elsewhere next time.
Nothing Everything, rude rude rude manager and very dirty and daited, maids were super loud , never stay there again. Worst place we've ever stayed at. I can't believe there are decent reviews of this dump!!!!!!
Did not feel safe there. The bed spread and drapes were dirty, no place to plug in coffe maker, lamp was broken and other lamps had missing light bulbs. Bathroom had malfunctioning shower head and tub mat not clean. Continental breakfast was not very healthy.
Quiet rooms, curtains kept room dark when sleeping, all rooms ground floor. The fragrance of the room cleaner was very strong - we had to air out the rooms.
Clean, comfortable rooms, great prices. Leak in the shower caused water to flow into the rest of the bathroom after a few minutes.
easy to find. Reasonable breakfast.
the cleanliness and coverall comfort. location the tv did not work, and the tub/shower is slippery.
Excellent Location for shopping, downtown & aquairum. Clean and quite. I was late for my arrival and unsure of process for checking in. No signs to clearly direct me to the check-in window.
My husband and i always stay here when we are in the Monterey area. Rooms are clean and the beds are pretty comfortable. Great location, close to an outlet mall with shopping and restaurants. And not a far drive from the warf. They have cleaned up the place since our first stay.
Room that has everything I expect from a hotel including refrigerator, A/C and microwave. Bath was shower only but was fine for what was needed. Staff was curtious and handled our needs appropriately. Coffee/Tea was provided in the office in the morning. Room has had a lot of work done by someone that fancies themselves as a handyman. Walls had obvious patches, light fixtures/vents were not flush with the ceiling, wall texture flaking off. There also were a few ants in the bathroom.
The hotel room was clean and comfortable. Easy to find and easy access to the highway and downtown Monterey. Parking was a little tight, but manageable.
I was there for a conference, so I didn't use the facilities much. I enjoyed the room very much. It was nice, clean, and very comfortable. The staff was also attentive, courteous, and very professional
Good bed; price; location Ice machine not working
Location was great. On the main street leading to the tourist areas. The breakfast and eating area was messy, unclean, and unattended. We went somewhere else for breakfast.
The first room had a strong smell but we were given another room which was fine. The location is convenient with a shopping mall nearby & easy access to local sights, etc. The staff were very honest and helpful when I had an issue with a credit card. Breakfast area was cramped & the choice is limited, but this is not unusual.
The housekeepers added extras that I appreciated. Excellent location They charged more than their quoted price - $119 vs $99
management friendly and helpful. Had problem with new key system. Door would not stay shut and locked from outside, only when inside. Reported to management, but was not fixed in the two day we were there.
The Travelodge was charging $89.99 per night for the room I stayed in. You charged me $110 which I thought was the best price available.
It was very clean and comfort. If they have any discounts for visitors for college students.
The breakfast was welcoming and substantial. Also the staff at desk in the morning was cheerful and helpful. Room had everything and was clean. Bed was very comfortable. Definately a good value for money hotel to use as a base to explore Monterey and surrounding area. Was on busy road but we were aware of this.
It was noisy
Clean and well maintained Breakfast food choices could be improved
close proximity to everything noisy! night traffic was terrible. they added a safe warranty cost and tourism cost to the price. We did not use the safe.
Situation It was definitely too noisy. Too close to a heavy traffic road.
It was close to an event in which Mary wanted to participate. Everything worked. It was your quintessential no frills businesslike chain motel. It was cramped and poorly accessible.
Staff were the friendliest you'll find anywhere!
We it the room with the jacuzzi tub and really enjoyed it. It was really elm antic and relaxing. Price was worth it. Excellent location for exploring Monterey. No complaints. The hotel is right on the street but if you are in one of the back row rooms I couldn't hear it.
Hotel great location Aesthetics could be better i.e. furniture, interior
N/A I am still surprised no one has called the health department yet and shut down this place. The towels were stained and gross, when I asked for new ones the front desk man/manager grabbed 3 other towels with his greasy hands and put them on the dirty counter, they were touching the floor and he gave them to me as cleaner ones...they also had stains. The shower curtain had mold..a lot of it, the floor had huge white stains and blankets holes from cigarettes. ..and the smell..oh boy!
Great location, able to book a room last minutes The facility is very old, and the walls are not sound proof at all. If you stay at a room near the stairs, you will hear cracking noise from the wood while people walking up and down. The heater was broken and the wifi is super slow. The beds are clean but the pillows are hard and flat. While the staff are generally very nice but they don't speak English very well, so it's not exactly easy to communicate.
It had a fireplace. Expensive! The toilet was not secured to the floor, nor was the seat to the toilet. Bed was very old and sagged quite badly on both sides. The whole place seemed quite run down.
Location and friendly staff. The breakfast.
I got two queen beds for a pretty cheap price. Located across from a shopping center with restaurants and Whole Foods market. I was able to book same day on Kayak. Parking was free and right in front of the room. micro and a/c did not work in room #8. (Plug wasn't working) Floor leaked near refrigerator. Easy to hear everyone else walking up stairs and talking outside the window. Breakfast was basically muffins and cold cereal. No pool. You get 1 room key and have to turn it in at the end or be charged $20. Bathroom door did not lock.
Friendly employees Bed was comfy Room was clean Free wifi Location Stayed here a few times, decent for what you pay The smell in the office Thin walls Cold at nights because the door doesn't seal, fixed by turning on the fireplace
I will NEVER stay here again. They advertise $135 for 3 days including 10% tax...HOWEVER they charge $189 for the stay because of the tiny print indicating there is a $15 Room Service Fee. The owner had the audacity to laugh at my shock/distress...I work very hard for what little $ I earn and I tightly budget my spending. Also it doesn't feel good to be duped in this manner...I later checked: most motels in Monterey charge a $1 or $5 room service fee.
Price friendly staff and clean rooms Old TV, loud, bath products
They have fire places in some rooms. Found hair on the bed,& in the shower. The TV didn't work, nor did the alarm or one light. Main door did not properly close and light was coming in threw cracks.. very thin walls, could hear people in next room talking. The bed felt old and broken, the bed sheets were, well they were only top sheets. If you're so cheap you can't afford CAL KING bed sheets, maybe you shouldn't have a motel.....
pool large room easy parking arrived at noon was told to come back at 3pm for checkin as room was not ready, had to wait 3 hours to get our room
Had my credit card number stolen after booking online. Was turned away while trying to check in. Only had the defunct card so they demanded $250.00 cash deposit. Still ended up paying for the room on my shredded Visa. What's in your wallet?
Location is okey! but not coming back Didn't like reception service, and wrong information=had to wait almost 11/2 hrs for check in.As per itinerary check in 3pm but @ hotel reception shows 4pm so there is already discrepancy.I got there around 2.30 something and told me have to wait 45 min or so I said will wait in parking lot after waiting check @ reception couple times but said still not ready. So you can imagine how service I received. than I was not happy and want to cancel reservation and look diff hotel but she said you have to pay penalty. So you can imagen!!! Thank you
the staff were very nice and helpful. I like the two room setup instead of just two beds. The room was dirty. The carpet was filthy, the furniture was filthy and the room smelled really really bad. Rooms are not what appear on the pictures. For the amount of money I was hoping for something much better. I would not stay here again.
We stayed during the 4th of July weekend. The hotel location was close to downtown and only a few miles from Cannery Row. The Hotel charges $20 if you book online and the beds weren't very comfortable. Mattress felt old as if there was a perminant indention where people have slept over a couple years.
It is located right by the warf. Great location. Breakfast included. Rooms were small but clean. Rooms were outdated.
The hotel staff was very friendly, the room was clean and had all the needed appliances. Location is central to major touring areas and the neighborhood is very safe. The first night there was no parking, all spots were full.
Great location. Great pool and jacuzzi. Well maintained. Checkout shoul dbe at noon. They moved it to 11 - which does not give enough time to enjoy the amenities of the hotel.
Located within walking distance to waterfront. Smal bed, not very clean, overpriced
Ok - We were not looking for a great accommodation but we would be happy with what was advertised. We arrived and the Breakfast was no longer included. They did not offer it at all.. the room as "open" to ensure that it was aired out. While the room was clean and updated and the beds were clean and comfortable the welcome left something to g=be desired.
Great location and value for Monterey.
Um the room was big Very sloppy, if I was hungry there was some old French fries under the chair. There trying to fix it up but all the remodel work looks like it was done by a group 1st graders It could be a good spot just needs a lot of love and some owners who care. If you want real milk for breakfast you better bring it all soy menu
Good price, reasonable quality
Good location, close to shopping center and downtown Monterey, clean rooms and facilities wifi connection was very weak and intermittent
Agreeably surprised by the cleanliness of the room for this independent motel and the amenities available, compared to the other big brands. The price is very interesting and it is located across the shopping-center (Macy's, Whole Foods Market...) The ceiling fan is very noisy when you switch on the light in the bathroom. The wi-fi signal is not that strong. But, at least, you can catch the free access network offered by the other neighboring motels.
Location was convenient to both the beach and downtown Monterey. Staff was friendly. The rooms were old and the carpet smelled. The maid sprayed Febreze all over the room to cover it up, and we had to air it out. The lock was almost broken and a few times the door got stuck. Really, it was just a bunch of barely-maintained wooden shacks.
location noise from room next door. Awful "breakfast" consists of watered down OJ & pieces of poppyseed muffins.
It isn't much of a breakfast.
I stayed at this motel in 2005, I believe the ownership/management has changed. The location is great! Pricing is great!, very comfortable place. When I checked-in the gentleman at the front desk is very friendly and helpful. I'm completely turned-off by the woman working the front desk, here's the following: my keycard kept losing it's magnification, I requested clean towels, the woman at the front desk was argumentative with my room mate and I over these issues. Also, she let us know that we inconvenienced her, she's very, very rude, As long as she's working there, I won't return to Padre Oaks (I visit Monterey every two months) I won't recommend Padre Oak as long as she's there.
Price...I guess you get what you pay for. location is convenient. Heater was off...Turned off because weather had been warm and was told there was no one to light the pilot. Cable was out, limited service. Host was nonchalant about items, like "oh well" what do expect for such cheap rates.
staff not so kind
Left at 1am after waking up to bedbugs. Horrified, I went to the officem before leaving. Checked into another Inn. Asked for refund the next day & the manager of Padre Oaks refused. BEWARE!
Staff was accomodating and responded well to any concerns. Bathroom could be cleaner and one room smelled like mold. Was able to move to another room.
nothing This was literally the worst hotel experience I have ever had. I left 1 hour after checking in and spent an additional $300 to book another hotel. I took pictures of how disgusting the room was, as well as the fact that the bed was certainly not a queen as advertised. Honestly, we did not get what we were promised, and even if we had it was so dirty and disgusting that we really should get a refund. It was THAT BAD. This place was THE WORST. If I were Kayak, I would take them off your listings so that this doesn't happen to someone else as well.
Great Stay For So Cheap, Was super tired and needed a cheap motel, really pulled through. Walls Are Very Thin, You Can Hear Everything Next Door.
Staff was helpful and attentive. Clean and nice beds. Ok location... Between seaside and monterey The walls were dirty.. The room was run down and a maid dumped mop water in front of my door both days... One time splashing my babies swing. There was pounding all day because there is a sports gym behind the hotel
Room was clean and neat and staff helpful. Noisy with thin walls. People talking kept us up until 3:00am
The location was reasonable and having wifi in the rooms was a plus. The staff were very unfriendly and spoke a limited amount of English. Breakfast consisted of a few muffins and cereal that you have to get from the front office and carry to your room b/c there's nowhere to sit. More important, the price was way too high for that kind of hotel.
It was close to the town of Monterey and its attractions. The Wi-Fi didn't work and the continental breakfast was sub par.
The service was good, I love the fact that it was very close to everything, specially the beach. terrible parking..there was no place to park...we had to park on a non-parking area.
