This is a small bed and breakfast type experience with 4 very nicely appointed private rooms with baths. The owners cook you an excellent breakfast and gladly take you to dinner in the town and share their experiences living in South Africa for the last 20 years. The owners are a couple originally from Holland...very nice people! The lodge is immaculate and very well appointed with a great outside space for eating, pool for swimming, fire pit for evening drinks, etc. The lodge is in a wildlife estate...it is a "neighborhood" with large lots and paved roads then has dirt, bush roads you can explore in your car to see all the wildlife that does not just stroll by the pool. :) There zebra, giraffe, warthogs, all types of antelope, porcupine, etc....and a leapard on site. We were there just after the mating season so there were little ones running around everywhere....including lots of birds...kingfishers, rollers, hornbills, ibis, etc. The location is great because even though you are among the wildlife, the roads are all paved and you are literally 5 minutes from town (fuel, restaurants, shopping, and the airport. You are also very close to the Kruger gate. The place was excellent, but this is not "in the bush, roughing it, safari" type experience. So if you are looking for that, go into the park or sabi sands (where we stayed for a couple of days at Umkumbe lodge. Loved both experiences!
friendly and helpful staff direction not easy to find
All the staff were wonderful, particularly Patrick and Frans, who were extremely knowledgeable about all the animals and the whole area. Eliot was very flexible about his menu due to my food allergies.
The room was nice but there were 2 single beds and no double bed The food was terrible, cold and out of date. The lodge ran out of food for breakfast on our second day so we packed up and left. It was more like a 2 star hotel than a 4 star.
It is a reallly amazing place to stay. The jeep trip is nice!
Everything was just wonderful. People must remember that tips are quite expensive on top of what you pay for the hotel. Tips for guide, tracker and workers in the Hotel. Aprox - 600 rand per day on top of what you pay for the Hotel. THese tips are obligatory. (Or it seems to be that way)
Most enjoyable time. Fortunate to have Diff as our ranger and being a party of 9 the exclusive use of one vehicle was a bonus. Pity the weather interfered with the special occasion but had a good time regardless.
The location is unique and the safari experience was very good. The cellular telephone network was not available for 2 days. Breakfast and dinner was less than we expected (was buffet style just one day) and the quality - variety of the food was very poor.
i enjoyed the game drives, and i love the lay out of the room.
Our ranger was very good and informative and bush walk was great experience. The food is excellent and the capacity for guests small so you get to know people easily. Outside showers are private, good water pressure and plenty of hot water, so don't let this put you off booking - given the choice however, I think I'd prefer an inside shower!
