Great Location, central and easy walking distance to restaurants, marina, aquarium etc
Quite expensive but the hotel is lovely, new but very well planned & designed with flair to give a great atmosphere - the location helps of course, being right on the water. Also a lot of little accessories were provided in the room. Unusually, as there is nearly always something to criticise, we could make no criticism of The Jolly - Marina at all.
The Hotel is well located but the staff, with rare exceptions, was not helpful at all. We needed a late check out ( around 2 PM ) to catch a plane and the lady at the desk told us she couldn't do it because the hotel was fully booked. However, acessing Booking.com we could easily see that there were, at least, 20 rooms available for the next day. We felt deceived because we were lied to.
Paid for a regular room and got an awesome luxury apartment. Expensive (and full) parking, had to park in the (yet more expensive) Aquarium parking next door.
i came to the hotel parking straight from France thanks to my car gps ,the staff at reception was perfect and answer my worries:how can i park safely my car.and sold me tickets for the boat to take us to the Nautica international.i was also advised to a very good traditional restaurant in the vicinity for a nice dinner.100% efficient.thanks. none
Very good hotel located into marina. Yachts are all around.Fantastic bar and restaurant with perfect terase.
view I must go away two days before and I must pay for all period. This condition is not correct.
In Centre City. Near The Aquarium
Nice location, very nice staff, excellent breakfast, old but luxurious rooms; good choice...
Within a 15 minute walk from points of interest. Valet parking eliminated all parking hassles. Once grand but now rather outdated. Hallways very unattractive. Very expensive at full room rates and not good value for money. I would rate in-room accomodation as 3-4 star.
Everything was just great.
Good breakfast buffet Not flexible about kids access to SPA
This hotel is perfect if you are looking for a regular romantic holiday break. The staff were very friendly and welcoming on arrival. My husband and I speak various languages, and so they were happy to accommodate, and even teach us some Italian phrases. They also pointed us to various things to do in Genoa and the surrounding areas, such as boat excursions to Camogli-San Fruttuoso-Portofino. The restaurant manager was extremely helpful and welcoming; I felt a bit ill during dinner one night and went down to the room, while he arranged to have my food brought to the room, which was a kind touch. The room is pretty and tastefully decorated. The Spa facilities are excellent, with a sauna, 'tepid room', steam room, hydropool, comfortable lounge chairs, showers, ice dispenser, teas and snacks available. We liked the rooftop jacuzzi - very relaxing. Please note that the following are merely notes that can be built upon: Although this was a fantastic hotel for a regular holiday, I would have expected a little more from management for our honeymoon (we were married the day before). My husband had notified the hotel that this was our honeymoon several months ahead. Given that this was a 5* hotel, I had high expectations for our honeymoon. Upon arrival into our room, however, my first reaction was that the room was a little disappointing as it was rather small and in the corner of the hotel at the back (giving onto an apartment's hanging laundry). My husband had arranged rose petals (lovely touch, spread in hearts on the bed) and champagne on arrival. However, there was no champagne and he had to call Reception to remind them to bring it up, which arrived while he was in the shower, and so I had to sign the bill - which greatly embarrassed my husband. I later learned that the hotel had suggested upgrading our room to a honeymoon suite (100euros extra per night) and that the roses cost 30euros and champagne 80euros. Having traveled extensively to 5* hotels all over the world for two decades, and having made inquiries over that time, I was made aware that honeymooners tend to get complementary 'special treatments' from hotels to make their honeymoon extremely special (for example, complementary/discounted room upgrade, complementary rose petals, fruit baskets, discounted couple's massage etc) and I suppose to retain these customers. I am aware that Grand Hotel Savoia is a business that needs to profit. However, I would suggest that the hotel consider better ways of catering for honeymooners, which would be a good way of retaining these customers. For instance, we would have absolutely loved a complementary/discounted room upgrade to a front-facing room, without having to ask, and simple little extras (like a complimentary small fruit bowl in the room upon arrival). Furthermore, I was a bit surprised about having to pay £30 for the rose petals, and I was disappointed by the above issue with the champagne. Just some notes for future reference. Thanks!
Beautiful, well-appointed room, very close to the main railway station. Very friendly and helpful staff. No hotel restaurant. Not a big deal, but a hotel purporting to be five star should have one.
Good bathroom, comfortable bed, courteous & helpful staff.Breakfast was a good experience and the food and service at the trattoria is excellent.Pity the water shortage meant the spa was shut. The first room:TV and bedside lamp did not work. The second room layout had not been well thought out to enable easy use of the available facilities.
the rooms and bathrooms are clean I travelled using my car. on my arrival there was no space for my car in the hotel parking (in 5 stars hotel this is!!). only one resturant in the hotel with a limited veraities.
Nice old world atmospheric hotel Still renovating. Car Parking inconvenient. Inexperienced staff. Overpriced. Good 4 Star but not nearly up to 5 Star level.
Old-style ambiente, quiet, perfect air conditioning.
Location is perfect. Staff speaks very good English. Beds very comfortable. None
The spa facilities were very good The staff were helpfull and friendly There was a good choice for breakfast The parking attendent damaged my car while parking it and then denied it From now on I will park my own car
Location is outstanding especially being close to Stazione Principe and great sites such as via Garibaldi. The small and cosy feel to the hotel is attractive; it is not large and impersonal.
The buffet breakfast was fit for a queen! There was so much choice of different foods on offer and even included my favourite food, smoked salmon! Also it was convenient to train station and not far to walk to port and other attractions. If you wanted to leave a window open it was quite a busy, noisy area but we wanted to be near train station for convenience.
Our room was large & very nice. The staff was very pleasant & helpful. Bicycle racing groups took over the hotel & other guests took second place, particularly in restaurant for dinner & breakfast (no other nice restaurants nearby). Neighborhood was a bit questionable (felt a bit uncomfortable walking, even during the daytime) Altho close to the waterfront, the waterfront is all industrial etc. Otherwise, the hotel itself was just fine.
nicely appointed and good location, breakfast was well done. The room we were given was very small and we had requested an extra bed and there was no way to put one it. So they gave us a bigger room but the window was blocked by a screen from the outside which i guess was put there to obstruct the view of a building and the a/c unit. I think as long as you don't get that room, you'll be fine but the normal double room is quite small.
Nostalgic setting and environment with sapcious room that we liked most. Breakfast is good and lots of choices. Location is very convenient to Station Principe, Genova. The windows can hardly be open due to too close to nearby building and no views at all.
very bad internet connection (especially in my room 232). parking service takes too long (we were waiting up to 30 minutes to get our car in the morning)
Great atmosphere, excellent rooms and the antique elevator..beautiful. Very close to harbour, 5 min. drive.
Helpful hotel staff
So convenient to main station, metro, bus station and maritime station , especially when using 24 hour transport ticket that included shuttle bus from airport to main station. hotel quiet despite proximity to sevices.
The hotel was comfortable with clean rooms and within a block of the train station. Nice breakfast room. Nothing
The reception people was very helpful and nice. The room was small and the queen bed was made with two individual mattress, it is uncomfortable because you feel the division
Convenient and pleasant. No air-conditioning in the bedrooms at night
The hotel location is just great (about 1 minute from the central train station). We booked deluxe room and it was very comfortably designed (two levels).
very close to the center of the city and the train station Very, very hard to find with GPS and a good sense of direction. Small hotel signage at the end of a busy one way street - with very limited parking. Good if you are walking or taking a cab - nightmare if you are driving.
The front desk staff was friendly, knowledgable and very efficient. The guest rooms were comfortable and very clean. Housekeeping staff is outstanding. Excellent selections available for the continental breakfast. Sorry did not see any egg items available. I suggest that the front lobby and reception areas be upgraded to create a positive impression upon arrival. My first impression upon arrival in the lobby area made me question the status and quality of the guest rooms. Fortunately, my overall experience was very positive.
We had a great stay!! The food in the restaurant was delicious, the staff very helpful, the quad room was spacious and even had a balcony. Great location for train travellers
See previous survey from my stay on October 15 to October 18, 2010
Have good breakfast *It's hard to find the hotel, the hotel is in the china town and no any sign dirction. *Very high parking price (20% of room price), the hotel didn't tell us about it, we thought it was free.
Close to train Genova PP
away from the centre so nice a quite on a night, also not to far to walk for sightseeing. It is ok for use as a base could do with some new carpets
Very friendly and helpful staff at every point during our stay (3 nights). A couple minute walk to the port, main piazza, and restaurants. A block behind is a small ghetto which you may want to avoid but we never had any problems at all and we were out all points of the day.
The room and the bathroom were fairly small but modern and comfortable The hotel was situated in a fairly rough area which made us feel a uncomfortable about going out on foot at night
not much... leaky shower, noisy, no breakfast, no internet. I could go on
Great hotel. Good location, very close to the train station (Genove P.P not Genove Brignole). Clean rooms, very nice staff just ask them anything. Nothing. Everything was great.
Close proximity to the station and airport bus. Some of the rooms in the hotel did not have airconditioning which is contrary to what they have advertised on the webpage. The hotel is still under construction especially in the hall way. The lights were so dim that cleaners were made to vacuum in the dark (makes me wonder how clean the place really is). Showers were not functional and water continued to flood the bathroom. The place therefore had a really damp smell. Noise is badly insulated. Reviews from other guests did not reflect any of the above, which was why I had booked this hotel to begin with. Would have looked for alternate hotels if I had known of the above in advance.
location and friendly staff. new clean bathrooms and bedrooms
It's very very close to the train station and royal palace. Hotel has been newly decorated and the breakfast room has not been finished. Although the room is facing the street but the window has great effect for noise isolation. The hotel staff is kind and willing to help. The room foe the shower is really really small and you can not even turn around.
There were no facilities for having breakfast at the hotel - probably a temporary feature.
Great location. Very gentle staff. Very confortable. Great value for money. The windows don´t isolate very well the noise that came from the street.
Lacation not good lighteninh in room
As we were travelling by train we found the Hotel's location very handy to Termini Railway Station. It was also a relatively quiet area which felt quite safe and was close to several restaurants and a mini mart. It was handy for taking hop-on/hop-off bus trips near the railway station and we also were able to walk from here across town to Tivoli fountain, the Spanish Steps, Pantheon and Piazza Navona. A fair walk but not too difficult. The breakfast had a good choice of fruit, cereals, cold meats etc. It had a good bathroom and the bedroom was double-glazed and quiet. The bed was rather hard! The small reception area for guests looked nice but seating was not very comfortable.
Location! very close to Central station and old part of the City. Half the price of all the other hotels we stayed in in Italy. Hotel is old school type but spotless. Some fresh fruit for breakfast hooray!
Staff are extremely helpful
Location, pleasant breakfast room and service Bedroom felt cramped
Location, friendly staff, good room.
Excellent location 3 minutes walk from main station, easy access to historic city centre and old port
For a three star family run hotel my wife and I received 5 star treatment, especially from Paolo on reception. The buffet continental breakfasts during our stay were plentiful. A very good location with only a short walk from the train station and a short walk on departure to our cruise ship.
The hotel was in a central location and very convenient to the railway station. The breakfast was adequate. There was no shower curtain in the bathroom.
Very attentive service. Even the decor looks dated, it is super clean and lovely towels. Very convenient location. I can't fault anything...
in the center nearby the harbour where you can take the ferry, excellent restaurant (il lupo) just in front of the restaurant the street in front of the hotel has recently been changed into a one-way street
·Large comfortable room ·Giant bath by Italian standards. Sink, toilet, bidet, tub with hand-held shower (it could use a shower curtain). ·Mini fridge that was kept stocked with water. ·Large balcony with a view of the port and the sea. ·Lots of hot water. ·English-speaking staff was friendly and helpful. ·OK breakfast. Ask for espresso to avoid the Italians’ interpretation of what they think Americans like. Italy has much better coffee than the US. ·100m from Genova P. Principe railroad station. ·Easy to find – giant red neon sign. ·Queen size bed. ·Good restaurants very close. Tratoria Lupo. Good coffee bar very close. ·Elevators. ·Very convenient location -- 100m from Stazione Genova P. Principe, bus station, and Metro stop. Easy walking distance to nearly everything in the historic center. ·Family-run hotel.
the view from the breakfast room noisy ac in my room
Good Location very shabby place, breakfast disaster, too expensive for what you get
close to the railway station. I arrived late in the evening so it was quite quick to go breakfast was very poor, the atmosphere when I arrived was a bit odd, the location is not very safe for solo women travellers during night
situated in the centre, but it took us almost two hours to find it smelled old
The location is good, right to the main train station and 15 minutes from the port and center. The room was very small, the shower even smaller. In fact if you are fat, you cannot take a shower inside. Furniture was old. Although I have chosen the hotel also for WI FI, this didn't work. There is a lot of noise from outside traffic.
Close to the railwaystation Piazza Principe, the hotel has a beautiful view over the harbour from most of the rooms. It is a very pleasant hotel in a lovely city. Nice breakfast, a good shower and a fast internetconnection. Only the elevator is a little bit old-fashioned, but even that is not a problem.
It was well located and the staff were excellent. Excellent views of Genova. Close to the railway station, the cruise terminal and the shopping area. Lack of wireless or cord internet connection in the rooms. I was on a business trip and had to work in the reception area, which was very difficult. The staff were very accommodating, but unless there's internet access in the rooms next time I will not go there.
the location was excellent. The lift is always a plus when one carries too many luggage! As always the price for a single room is huge but here the room was directly above the station or felt like it a shame really!
very nice and helpful staff. also, breakfast was good. close to train station.
Too expensive, room was poor (maintenance, cleanliness). Breakfast very plain. Lovcation in centre
Perfect location, just few meters from main station. Hotel is clean and well kept.
The hotel is very closed to city center
My room looks nice, including all the facility I needed, but it was not quite clean. I could saw ashes flying in the morning sunshine.
Good size room, nice breakfast, very close to station and easy walk to sights of Genoa. Air conditioning wasn't working while we were there.
location is very close to train station Genova P.P. There is WiFi for extra money, but speed is extra slow and not stable. Door of room is not sound prove at all. If you sleep and somebody walks in a corridor feeling is like that somebody is in your room. TV signal is bad.
proximity to middle of town noise from lane in front of hotel
the location the size of the room
Incredibly helpful staff. Central location. Easy to find. Room was spotlessly clean. Room was slightly on the small side - but we booked a basic room & it was fine for a couple of nights.
Inexpensive accommodation close to station Room on busy street - very noisy
The hotel staff's ability to communicate in English and their willingness to provide a map of the area, walking directions, key points of interest, restaurant suggestions, information on train schedules, and taxi notification was wonderful. The hotel staff was able to accommodate everything that we needed and answer all of our questions. The service was top notch!
Conveniently close to train station and harbor; good breakfast served earlier than in most other hotels
Big room, separate bad for child
My girlfriend and I staied in Hotel Helvetia just one night during a weekend in Genova and all has been perfect! The staff is very friendly and really kind! The position is fantastic and the price is onest, it has been a fantastic choice for our week-end visiting the Acquario di Genova (see the distance in Google Maps)! This hotel is recomended referring to our direct experience! Maybe the room was a bit small but it is perfect for short trip!
Rooms small... but not bad for European City standards. Staff very friendly.
Great location, not too far from the main station and not too far from the Port or the main square. Staff were very helpful, esp the lady on the day always helped with questions and queries. The only problem I found was on check out they wanted payment in cash which I didn't have so had to go find an ATM and get out enough. I told the guy on the desk I didn't have cash and he gave me no other option, there was a efpos machine on the desk so no idea why I couldn't use my card. Put a whole dampener on the stay.
The morning staff tried to help but was quite powerless without management there. This hotel is a smoking hotel. The rooms have cigarette burns in the mattresses and sheets. We asked to be moved to a different room, and were told all the rooms were the same. In fact, the evening staff said all the rooms are non-smoking, and yet there were five ashtrays and air fresheners in each room. The decor is super outdated, rooms small and quite disgusting. This could be the worst hotel I ever stayed at in my life, we woke up and 7 am and left as soon as possible. I am not being dramatic or had some issues with management - I am hoping fellow travelers never have to experience this small horrid place in the worlds most beautiful country. Avoid at all costs!
was very noisy
Room 101 (!) is a good sized room but the double bed does take up a lot of space, bathroom is a fair size and very modern. The hotel is about 100m from the main railway station. Breakfast was good, and staff friendly and helpful. Not much of a view from the widow - but that's a really small point..
very friendly staff & comfortable, clean rooms lack of fresh bread at breakfast (it was packaged crisp bread instead)
It was central, we could book a place for our car in the nearby garage, the staff was very nice
convenient to the train station Noisey bar outside our room window
Kindest of hotel staff
central location rather expensive and very noisy from traffic all night
the hotel is very close to the train station, just 50 meters. the room is small, all the equipments are soso. the room is too small.
The hotel was in a good location, close to the railway station and an easy walk to the museums and harbour. Free wireless internet was available downstairs. Our room was so noisy we couldn't sleep - it was right above a really raucous restaurant. After complaining we were moved to a worse room for our second night, but the noise was almost as bad. It also had what must be the world's smallest shower. The hotel didn't have a real lobby area, just a rather bare room off reception to sit and use internet.
It was quite close to the railway station (Principe) Our room was across a laneway from the vent of a commercial kitchen & the room continually filled with cooking oil fumes so it was quite unpleasant.
Helpful staff and proximity to sights. Bar patrons outside room window made excessive noise until after Midnight.
It was close to the train station. Can't believe the price for what you get. SMALL room, very outdated furniture and fixtures. Two twin beds pushed together but they were different heights so didn't really make a double bed. I've stayed in hostels in developing countries that were nicer and more modern than this place.
Beautiful hotel built in the 1500's. Awesome staff, Gino the night deskman was the greatest. We had family staying at the Jolly for 3x as much, and we had a much bigger and cleaner room on a super quiet street close to everything.
Hotel is in a great location. The hotel is very worn down and very basic - it is more 2 star than 3 star. Breakfast was appalling, not worth paying for.
Covenient, quiet and spacious room on top floor. Great view. Convenient for railway station. Wide choice and good quality breakfast. Helpful English-speaking recepionist. Roof terrace. Hot water took several minutes to arrive in shower and basin in our room and the water pressure was low.
Breakfast very good, bed very comfortable. Air conditioning good. Location close to train station good. Bathroom dated and no shower curtain, no drain to bathroom floor.
The hotel was fine. Nothing special, but reasonable quality for reasonable price. I would stay there again if going back to Genoa.
It was close to the port and railway station.
Two-room suite with two bathrooms. Hotel has its own car park. Staff were friendly and helpful - we slept well past "official" breakfast time but they served us all the same.
The breakfast had excellent variety and quality. The hotel was very well located for our use - close to the train station and the musuems.
Our second visit to this hotel and it was as good as the first visit
Great breakfast, safe parking, huge room
The staff is very easy going. The hotel room had no heat during the cold months and the bathroom was pretty run down.
Close to main train station and no staris to walk up to hotel entrance Breakfast should be included in price. Bathroom not very safe as had to stand on small box to step into shower and basin had large crack in it.
Near the central railway station Principe and old town.
Staff :) Two small cockroach saw in my room.
The room has all the equipment a traveller needs (including a small refrigerator!), all is working and in good shape. The room I was at least is not sound-sealed - you can hear what's going on outside the door, and vice versa.
Very close to trains and old city, and shops etc.Good security Quite noisy at times with street below
Very friendly staff, who speak several languages, close both to the railway station and to the main tourist attractions, clean, quite a spacious room for a 2* hotel. A pipe was leaking in the bathroom.
fantastic staff who were always happy to help at whatever time of day/night the opaque glass door of my hotel room unfortunately made it a little to sleep and I couldn't find the corridor light switch (having said that i always forgot to ask about it in the morning!)
I very much liked the fact that they had a room available, because it was very late, very cold and "very" raining, and they didn't knew about my reservation. doors, decorations and too many ringing bells to get in
It's proximity to the cruise port. Walking distance. free internet
