Pros: The reservation wasn't honored when we got to SDQ and after about 1 hour, we were finally able to get a car...with another company. They (Sixt) did however honor the original price from our Kayak booking.

2.5 hours to get a car
Pros: the car itself was nice, clean and new
Cons: It took 2.5 hours to get my car through Alamo. The first counter there was one person in front of me and one person to wait on everyone. With only one person in front of me it took 30 minutes to become next in line. The adjacent counter employee felt so bad he brought me out a chair to sit on. Once at the counter it took another 30 minutes and I was told my car was not ready and that it would take 20 minutes. I thought that was fine because I realized I would be at the counter I was at for at least that amount of time. But once I finished at that counter and went to the parking garage counter to get my car I waited yet another hour for the car to arrive. I later learned that the cars were not kept there at the airport and that they are housed in Santo Domingo which is a 20 minute drive away. Once my car arrived they loaded my luggage and then told me I had to wait yet again because they didn't have the correct paperwork for the car. I was the first person off my flight and with no checked bags I was the first person to the car rental counters at 12:15. I did not get my car and leave the airport until 2:30. Unacceptable.

Never use Alamo
Pros: Worst experience ever renting a car.
Cons: They quote you one price online with insurance you get to the airport and they have all these hidden fees .

Pros: When I arrived to pick up the car I was surprised with the obligation insurance cost in Dominican Republic but the guy work with me in the way that i got the better possible deal.
Cons: The cost of the insurance is not clear in the site when you do the reservation.

Cons: The rental agency wanted $56 for cleaning the sand in the car; would the local would do it for $20 cash. We bought the deluxe o dollar deductible insurance which was as expensive as the car rental, and had a new scratch on the rear and then the agency wanted us to go to the police station and file a police report!!!! when we returned the car.

They didnt have my car!
Cons: The guy at the counter first said he couldnt find my reservation then they had no more available cars for the price range I asked for. He was of no help whatsoever! Well he did help a little by sending me to interrent where they charged me more for a less valued car. Never again Alamo Santo Domingo and I hope no one ever uses them!

Cons: When i arrived at the airport counter i was told that my reservation was not in the computer system,,leaving the changes to increase the rate that i had during my reservation, i was charged for a fair amount similar to my original reservation but not exactly, it seems customary of some car rentals in the Dominican Republic to find the way to eliminate your original agreement and increase the price rate in the moment that your desperate upon arrival
Don't buy the insurance offered at the time of boo
Cons: They do not except the insurance you buy at booking so it is a waste of money. By the time all the fees kicked in our rental car ended up being over $1300USD at the actual rental desk.

Got a totally beat up car and had trouble communic
Pros: Got an upgrade SUV (reservation was for medium sized car)
Cons: The original car (medium size) was tremendiously beaten up (lot of damage which made me not accept that) but the upgrade (SUV) also had a lot of damage.
Personel spoke mainly Spanish and could not not speak much English and I could not speak Spanish at all: hard to communicate.
One would expect that personel speaks multiple languages (i.p. common languages like English) in such jobs.

I did not take a car
Cons: First of all is not "Economy Rent a Car" but "Amer Rent A Car" so you can not found them. When I booked the vehicle was KIA Picanto,14 days was 190 USD but when I came price was 700 USD with full insurance or 350 half insurance...ok...but nobody told me that....same old story...190 USD is bite then you do not have a choice...:(

Pros: Nothing I can think of.
Cons: More than one hour wait at the pick-up counter.
Almost missed my flight because upon return they argued I had damaged the car even though all damages were clearly marked before I accepted the car. My advice: Don't accept a car with damages; and if you do, take pictures of entire vehicle and have witnesses if available.

Cons: It's disgusting! They charge you 65% more after setting up a reservation online. "Economy Rent a Car" Av. Independencia No. 1065 Zona Universitaria Dn Santo Domingo, Dominican Republic is screwing up people. I DO NOT RECOMMEND THIS INSTITUTION TO TO ANYBODY..
Cons: Did not like the fact that they didn't have a car for me at the time that I had reserve and didn't offer me an upgrade to compensate for it so I had to wait a couple of hours until somebody returned a car.

Watch out for insurance fees and class of car rese
Pros: The car was in good running condition. They just got a new fleet of 2016 cars so I was fortunate to grab one of the newer cars.
Cons: The rental agent insisted on me getting collision and 3rd party insurance after I told him that I did not needed the additional coverage due to my credit card protection and additional insurance I bought through Kayak. After about an hour discussion, he then tells me that it is a new law that just went into effect last month and that I had no choice but to buy the insurance from them. When that didn't work, he then tried the scare tactics to try to convince me to buy the insurance that was twice as much as the actual rental cost.
Then came the class of car that I was paying for. I reserved a full size car, but I ended up with a compact car instead. When I complained about the size of the car, I was told that I had to pay more because the larger cars were considered premium class. Nowhere else would someone consider a Hyundai Accent to be a premium car. After another 45mins argument, he agreed to give me an Accent instead of the sub compact car he originally was trying to give me for the price of the larger car. After spending 10 hours flying and an additional 2 hours at the rental desk, I still ended up paying an extra $20 from the reservation price. Not exactly sure why, but I was not willing to spend another hour arguing over the extra $20.

Pros: Car was ok. Clean and responsive. Didn't have any issues while I had it. No mechanical problems.
Cons: When I got there to pick up the car I was told that I to pay a different price no with exceptions. So I reserved the car from home for a set price because it was what I could afford only to end up having to pay twice as much once I picked up the car.
Also when I went to pick up the vehicle I had to wait forever because the attendant was nowhere to be found. The receptionist who attended me with the paperwork had to get out and get the car herself after I kept coming back to tell her that I was still waiting. The gentleman who was assigned to get the car was practically only a few feet from me sitting on a chair sleeping and pretending he didn't work there.. Horrible service. Just horrible.
As for the car it was scratched all over with many dents all around including the at the hood as if someone beat it with a baseball bat. Also had horrible paint job on the back. You can see the yellow stains protruding from the original white paint and the windshield was cracked. But at least the car did its job to take me from point A to point B without any problems..

I reserved a full size but instead got an economy
Pros: I got a working car
Cons: I got an economy when I reserved a full size for the price quoted however the rate wasn't; honor for the reservation.
Felt like a bait and switch.
I paid for insurance online but was told that it didn't apply in the Dominican Republic and was made to purchase additional insurance bring my rental to increase from an estimate of $340 for the week to well over $560. I will never rent fromThrifty again.
Cons: When we got to the airport to pick up the car, the price was change wit an increase of 34 % / $120 for one week rental. The increase was som Insurance and roadassistance that was mandatory, accortding to their employee at the airport. This was the first time we heard about these additional COSTs on a understandable way. Why don't they inform you about this before the pick-up?
Overall: We was not satisfied whit how they communicatet the price before pick-up. We felt cheated.
Our requirement is therefore to get a refound of $120.

Cons: It took FOREVER to complete the paperwork. And the desk was very hard to find. It is in a separate building outside of the SDQ airport.

Cons: Requirements to rent the car change by the minute. They try to force you with different tactics to purchase their insurance even when your credit card covers insurance. They lie to your face to make you purchase their insurance. Then backout when you are able to meet their high requirements for not getting their insurance by lying.
Cons: Prices seem cheap until you get there and they sell you an insurance that is more expensive than the rental and they wont let you rent the car without buying their insurance first.

Price doubled when our flight was delayed
Cons: We arrived a day late because our flight was cancelled and called Payless to tell them. Since we would be taking the car for 6 days instead of 7, the agent informed us the rate would double! we ended up finding another car with another company, but not nearly as good a deal as our Payless reservation because we had to book at the last minute.
