Cons: The staff were not particularly friendly and did not appear to be well-trained in customer service. When the credit card machine would not read my corporate card, the staff member was not particularly sympathetic about the situation and was prepared to end the transaction without my rental. Apparently this is corporate policy now, because she had no way to key in my card number, but she wasn't friendly or understanding about it.

Cons: Go to Alamo instead. Dollar tricks you into saying yes to insurance that is not mandatory. For me, that resulted in a rental cost that was nearly three times what appeared in the online reservation. Then they hold an additional $200 on your credit card. So, had I been stupid enough to carry out the transaction, the $103 charge I was expecting became a $500 hold on my card. I said no thanks and went to Alamo, where they don't hold the additional charge and they don't try to trick you into insurance that heavily inflates the rental cost. The charge they submitted at the time of the reservation was the real, actual final charge. They're also really nice and they give you bottled water (Alamo, NOT Dollar).

Everything good except the false price
Cons: Kayak said the price would be about $79, and it ended up as about $89. Kayak said it would be $20 per day, and Dollar charged $25. I'm not if this is Kayak's or Dollar's fault, but either way, that sucks.

Cons: I wasn't able to rent a car from Dollar,because of their new policies against using debit/credit cards. Additionally, Dollar wanted to charge a $350 deposit for a $78 rental. I was forced to find another company to rent from at 1 am.

Worst rental experience ever
Pros: Nothing was likeable.
Cons: The Dollar shuttle never showed up at the Detroit airport, and it was really cold outside, so a shuttle driver from a rival company offered to drop us off as it was on his route. When we got to the Dollar/Thrifty rental place, there was one agent working the counter----at 6 PM the Tuesday before Thanksgiving. The line was huge, and people at the front of the line told me they had been waiting for over two hours. When customers got upset the Dollar representative screamed and threatened to cancel their reservations. People repeatedly asked to speak to a manager and they refused to locate one. I used my smartphone and booked a car with a rival company for $300 more and walked over to their building and only waited five minutes in line. I must have seen 10-15 other families/individuals do the same thing once they saw the abysmal situation at Dollar. I will never book a car with Dollar again.

Cons: Dollar does not accept debit cards for rentals. This "new" policy is only available via handmade sign sitting on rental desk.
Pros: The employee and her manager were very friendly and they went out of their way to accommodate us. I was amazed since I have not had this kind of service at other rental car agencies.

Pros: The car was clean and nice.
Cons: The lines were long. Adding spouse as driver would have required additional $10/day, so made this unaffordable for the long rental period. The electronic process didn't work, so we ended up in the in-person line anyway.

Easy, fast, great experience
Pros: The pickup and dropoff process was a well oiled machine. There were 3-4 cars in the class that I had reserved available for me to choose from, all of which were in good condition. My chosen SUV was clean and drove well. No issues and altogether a great experience/value.

Adding spourse to rental cost extra
Pros: I liked that you could pick any mid-size car that you wanted. Great customer satisfaction.
Cons: When we have rented from Alamo previously, the spouse was able to be added as a driver free of charge. For some reason, the rental in Detroit charged an extra $10 per day to list my spouse.

Pros: Nice car, very comfortable, great gas milage
Cons: They told me to take a car from the second row (Except from the first spot), I did then while leaving they said I was in the wrong style car.
Drop off I was 20 minutes late and they charged me $26!

Absolute best deal for my needs
Pros: Clean car in great condition (pickup truck)
Based on their rental patterns (I guess) the truck priced out the same as a small car. This served my needs greatly.

I would rent again.
Pros: That fact I get to pick my car. I rarely care for the one they pick, I like to choose what I'll be driving for said time.
Cons: Credit only. I rarely use a credit card, so much so that I don't carry one and I was in a jam, luckily I actually had a return flight and he was able to bypass that.
Cons: I was stranded in a place where I knew no one.

Pros: The care was fine and clean, in good shape and the check in was quick
Cons: That they wanted to charge for my wife being an extra driver. No other Rental company does that - but Thrifty wanted 13 dollars a day for it. Plus when I wanted to add liability insurance, they wanted to charge 29.99 per day. This is more than double what other companies charge and is obvious gouging. I will not rent from Thrifty again.

Thrifty Detroit - OK, not great
Pros: Car was very nice, Mazda 3 has fantastic mileage
Cons: - Detroit has no-fault insurance which was not noted in the info presented prior to pickup, allowing the desk clerk to threaten everyone with hellfire and damnation should they not buy the additional coverage (and I still don't know if it's accurate or not) after a fair bit of googling - I think you'll have to explicitly ask your carrier and card what the case is.). The insurance extra is $9/day, almost a 50% increase in the price relative to the deal we got from kayak. Check before you rent in MI.
In Detroit, like most airports, the lots are away from the terminals and Thrifty's buses weren't all that speedy. However, a tip - ask any of the car rental places if you can hop on for a ride - one of them gave a lift right to the lot.

Pros: Everyone on the Thrifty staff was incredibly helpful and friendly! The bus drivers, the people at the counter and the workers in the lot and exit booth all made a pleasurable experience out of my arrival in the middle of a snowstorm.

Two hours to get out of DTW?
Cons: When I arrived at Thrifty at DTW, the line was out the door, and there were three stations open. They never brought on extra people, even though it was the day before a UofM football game, and half of Florida was flying in for the game. It took an hour to get to the counter, and once I had the car, another hour to get out of the parking lot, because they only have one exit booth!!

Cons: THE LINE TO PICK UP THE CAR WAS ATROCIOUS. I waited for over 40 minutes in line just to spend two minutes renting a car. I will never rent from Budget again. How on earth is there not an electronic check out yet? This is 2016. I should not have to wait 40 minutes in line for ANYTHING, much less a shitty rental SUV.

Cons: We were unable to contact anyone at Budget. We forgot our dog carriers in the car, called several numbers including the mangers emergency number. We neither reached someone nor did we get a return call. IF the car had been cleaned the carries would have been found before the car was sent out. So that would be two failures. One no way to contact the Detroit office and two not cleaning the car.

Pros: I'll start by saying my car was great! Late model, features such as Sirius, Bluetooth connectivity, nice large displays, power everything and a good price via Kayak. But if you're asking about the overall rental user experience, unfortunately Budget was poor to below average.
Cons: I arrived uneventfully via a red-eye at 5:50a and after drop-off by the courtesy shuttle and there were only three or four folks ahead of me. Quickly, the line tripled. No greeting or word on what the delay was; two folks exited the line, another was audibly/visibly upset and fifty minutes later I arrived at the front desk. Only then, did I find out what the issue was -- THE COMPUTERS WERE DOWN.
Probably the lowlight of the visit was (while still in line) was a woman breaking in over the loudspeaker yelling "Tell your customers to have their paperwork and ID ready BEFORE they come to the front gate!!!!" Incredibly rude and unprofessional.
Upon arrival the attendant gave me more bad news, my vehicle was not ready and had to be found and prepped. 15 minutes later as I waited outside (not really sure where to wait), a third car pulls up and a guy gets out. As he walks away, I ask which car is mine (as another guy was also waiting for an SUV). He said yes, and after growing gray during a LONG wait, I was free to start my trip.
This experience should have been handled with a little more professionalism which could have helped, but there didn't seem to be a process in place. And for this reason, I wouldn't go Budget again. Ugh.
Pros: Customer service agent was great. Very friendly, efficient and kind.

Decent car, bad customer service
Pros: I got a Kia Forte which was clean, updated and had all the necessary things in a rental car.
Cons: The guy checking me in didn't properly explain the option refueling with them properly. He said it's just time saver and the price was competitive. When I returned the car I confirmed that I would only be charged for the amount of gas I used which shouldn't have been much since the tank was almost full. When I checked my card statement thy charged me for he full tank, triple the cost of my original reservation. When I called to talk to them, they said it was on the receipt but the receipt wasn't printed properly because their printer was broken. I have contacted the corprotate office regarding the issue and am awaiting a response and refund.

Pros: Car was comfortable and cheap
Cons: Cars were not ready when we hot there. Staff horsing around in full view of customers. Was not given a sign off that everything was okay with the car return. The 2 staff members hardly looked my way and did not even check that I returned the car in good condition.
Pros: The employees; at pick up, check out & return!
Cons: Not a fan of the jeep compass; driver seat not comfortable large blind spots.

Cons: The bad thing about the automated system is it seemed almost impossible to speak to a real person I had a simple question that the automated system was not able to answer it took me about 4 hours three phone calls and maybe 3 days to actually get a actual person to answer a simple question which took them three minutes to answer answer for me maybe having the option to speak to a real person in the beginning menu should be a thing although your automated call system has a lot of options to choose from from Renton to drop it off at a different location and all other things some people just like to speak to a real person I believe giving them that option will set you ahead of the competition

Interior of car was awful
Cons: The previous renter of my original car apparently used the center console compartment to spit his chewing tobacco into. After driving for about 30 mins, I could not understand where this awful smell was coming from. I then opened up the compartment and WHEW, the stink was horrendous! I was supposed to pick up clients to go to dinner but there was no way I could with this car. I then had to drive one hour each way to switch cars! Can't believe this happened with Hertz!

Good airport service
Pros: Rx pickup and transport to and from airport. EZ drop off procedure. Car was clean and overall no problems.
Cons: One small issue was that I prepaid the car online and thought it was paid in full. Discovered an additional $18 in taxes when I arrived. Would prefer to know all charges up front with no surprises later.

Great service and overall quite happy
Pros: Staff was wonderful! Very courteous and helpful. The car drove nicely and was good on gas.
Cons: When reserving the car in the Kayak app, I chose an SUV. Upon pick up, I was told I'd reserved a Toyota RAV 4 which in my opinion is one of the smallest SUVs made - I actually thought it was a jeep.
Thankfully the Hertz staff helped me upgrade to a Pathfinder which was quite comfortable for my entire family.

Cons: Great car, but it was a gas guzzler. I expected to get a car that wasnt so fuel consumer.
It was also expensive when I take into consideration the fuel I had to pump in.

Cons: Bright headlights only worked while you were holding it. Also it seems like the headlights needed to be adjusted. The beam did not go out very far. Driving at night was not comfortable.
Pros: The people we dealt with could not have been better. Friendly, helpful, courteous.
Cons: Although the car was clean on he outside, the inside was dirty, mud on the floor mats and doorways. Smelled of former smokers.

Cons: my biggest complaint is being totally ripped off for having gas put in. there were no gas stations locally and was pressed for time to make flight. I had to pay more than the cost of renting the car fro two days just to have gas put in it. my rental fees were $97.15 and i was charged an additional $127.42 because didn't fill it with gas. The car was a Chevy Impala.
Pros: The car was great and drop off was quick and easy.
Cons: The pickup was terrible. Attendant in the lot just stared right through me as I asked a question 3 times and then yelled into his radio. Eventually I gave up and figured it out myself. He never acknowledged that I was even standing there. Then i walked all the way across the lot to the building and the clerk inside asked a bunch of questions about insurance even though I purchased it when I booked the car. I didn't know it was third party but he acted like it was no good. Then told me to go out by the fence to get a truck. The only vehicles by the fence were needing maintenance. Someone drove by and told me to go back in and have him call for one. So I did. Waited 15 more minutes and the lady from Alamo came to ask if I was waiting for a truck and that it had been parked on the other side.
